(October 6, 2008) We met Carol Dawson not too l
ong ago. She is a knowledgeable, charming, enthusiastic and passionate about companies hiring the
right person for the job. Hearing her presentation at the R4 Conference secured her competency - her work experience in the
application of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) law is vast. Listening to her stories was mesmerizing as she discussed the application of the EEO laws to
actual companies and hiring situations. The discussion demonstrated the value of respecting diversity/differences while also giving awareness of
equality and affirmative employment laws.
The EEO GUIDANCE, Inc. website is packed full of information. We found the questions on the right of the home page that lead to
full articles very helpful.
Here is an example:
Do You Know Which EEO and Affirmative Action Employment Laws Apply to Your Business?
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) cover all private employers, state and local governments, and education institutions that employ 15 or more individuals. These laws also cover private and public employment agencies, labor organizations, and joint labor management committees controlling apprenticeship and training.
The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) covers all private employers with 20 or more employees, state and local governments (including school districts), employment agencies and labor organizations.
The Equal Pay Act (EPA) covers all employers who are covered by the Federal Wage and Hour Law (the Fair Labor Standards Act). Virtually all employers are subject to the provisions of this Act.

Particularly appealing was an area of the site, Extra Milers,
dedicated to people that make a difference in others lives. The stories are note worthy and within each one is a kindness tip of the month. You will find a few below:
Kindness Tip of the Month: If there is a friend in your life who you value and love, let them know. It has been said that truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget. When you find that truly great friend, let him or her know they will always be in your heart.
Kindness Tip of the Month:
Contact any of your local organizations who work with individuals with disabilities. Ask them what you can do to help. Anyone can spare at least one or two days a year to volunteer. When you do, take along your children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews to help. You will be giving them a special gift by allowing them to see first hand how we are all have the same heart, each with something special to offer others.
Kindness Tip of the Month: Pam and Becky ask that we all open our eyes to see the children in our community. There are so many who need your love and attention. If you can give just four hours a month, contact the Big Brothers Big Sisters and ask how you can help. BB/BS provides guidance and even free tickets to special events in the community to assist the mentoring process.
