- Back Issues, Weekly
- Week of of August 12, 1995:
- August 12, 1995: Industry Publications
- The computer industry publications site at
CMP is surprisingly good as a reference tool. They've also got a great employment section. The search engines enable a thorough review of widely read computer industry literature.
- August 11, 1995: MetaNet
- The folks at MetaNet have developed a major breakthrough. Their Website is directly interfaced to the incredible MetaNet conferencing system. It's a nice piece of work. The actual conferencing interface (WebCaucus) is a password protected system.
- August 10, 1995: The E-Minder
- I use E-Minder for a variety of purposes. The Netmind search engine watches URLs for changes. It then notifies you by email. I watch important sites for updates. It keeps me abreast of variations in the industries I'm following without having to repeatedly surf back to the same site. Registration is straightforward and can be accomplished by email once you have registered your first URL. Be conservative at first, and make sure that you have a mail program like Eudora (the commercial version) with filtering if you're going to follow very many sites.
- August 9, 1995: Green Eggs Report
- I like the Green Eggs Report. It picks new URLS from items posted to Usenet newsgroups and indexes them by newsgroup. It's a great place from which to view the ongoing evolution of the Web. Many new webmasters announce their creations in Usenet newsgroups first.
- August 8, 1995: Dejanews
- Dejanews is a massively indexed archive of Usenet news with an amazingly quick search engine. Yawn, you say? The hidden tracks of electronic commerce are buried in the statistics that Dejanews can manufacture. How many jobs for webmasters are on the net? What's the posting traffic from the Microsoft sites? Which CEOs post where? A curious mind will get lost in this treasure.
- August 7, 1995: GrabNet, bookmark manager
- I've been using GrabNet for about a month now. FFG has trial copies available for download at this site. Grabnet is a Netscape Bookmark manager. It lets you juggle hundreds of bookmarks, with comments and frees Netscape to do its work. My versions bugged out at about 1200 bookmarks, but I don't imagine that most people will use it that hard. Comes in Mac and Windows flavors. An official version is only $20.
- August 6, 1995: IBN
- Without the slightest trace of modesty, let me point you to the new IBN Website.
