Peterson's information covers elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, professional degree programs, study abroad, executive management programs, distance learning, financial aid, internships, summer programs, and career information. In addition, Peterson's provides wide-ranging services to academic administrators in support of admissions and retention. The Careers & Jobs section of their site has employment and jobs postings, as well as articles from a variety of publications. Colleges & Careers May 08, 1997 The US News Colleges and Careers Center provides advice and information for college entrants. It's a clean and interesting site with four sections:
There's also a "Guide for Parents", a "Loan Center" and a "Personal Organizer". Check this one out! Excite May 07, 1997 Excite Jobs Directory sports possibly the most exhaustive list of job-related links. Each entry is accompanied by a very brief abstract, with a link to the site itself and an editor's review. In addition, each site is assigned a familiar excite ranking. (We were gratified to note that we qualified for three symbols, with the imprecation that "...Anyone using the Web to find employment should stop in here first.") The list also favorably ranks Allen Cory's Bay Area Job Links. Despite it being geographically-specific, this well-organized and comprehensive site boasts some 900 links to employers. If you are looking for a position in Northern California, this is a site you must not miss. Career and Resume Management is an incredible resource for anyone looking for a job. It is a clearinghouse for career management consultants, resume doctors, placement services and job development confrences. There are links to job data banks and advice on other ways to find employment. Finally, plucked from the list, we liked the look of Choosing Your Next Boss. South Africa's Decision Engineering created this interesting package that includes a computer program that helps you evaluate your skills and abilities, your goals and potential employers to helps you pick the best job, and one of the options is to be your own boss. Guaranteed Resumes May 06, 1997 Kevin Donlin of Guaranteed Resumes will write you a resume which is guaranteed to get you a job. He guarantees it. Resume writing runs from $100 and up, while editing an existing resume starts at $70. This is how it works. You go to a section of the site and fill out a detailed Personal Profile. The profile asks you a comprehensive set of questions, including the title of the job you are looking for, all your previous employment, your current and anticipated earnings and so forth. Then you send all this information off to Kevin, and hey, presto! - a few days later you receive a resume. Kevin will even use the data you supply to conduct an Internet search on your behalf for a mere 30 bucks! We're sure that Kevin is a great copywriter and that the end result is aesthetically pleasing. However, the old saw - GIGO - applies. In other words, if you are unsure of the specifics of the position you are seeking, the greatest copywriter in the world can't help you. Finding the position that's right for you involves painstaking research and total focus upon your goals. That's the hard part. Still, if you know what you want, but lack the necessary skills to convert your resume into persuasive copy, then Guaranteed Resumes is worth a look. Bridgepath May 05, 1997 BridgePath is a free job service for job seekers - they serve students and recent alumni. The service is easy to use.
