    Make Green Being Green

    Cattle Calls

(February 13, 1997): Has your life been short of experiences that combine fear, humiliation, crowding and opportunity? Then you clearly have not endured a Career Fair. With the exception of high school proms, there are few moments where so many new suits are stuffed into so small a space. Spring break in Miami is the only other place we can think of where so much opportunity is compressed into so short a time.

Fumbling difficulties aside (no one involved really likes them, but they are the best method around), Career Fairs can be a job hunting paradise. The web is laced with listings and calendars. Here are a few of the best guides and resources.

      Detailed Listings

    Rocky Mountain High

(February 12, 1997): If you've never been to Durango, CO, put it on your list. In general, if you haven't spent time in Colorado, put it on your list. While Denver is an easy place to find work and Boulder is a dream town, we frankly never thought we'd see jobs in Durango on the web.

The Colorado Online Job Connection puts an interesting face on the possibility of living and working in the Rocky Mountain State. They feature:

All provided by a recruiting firm that seems good hearted and generous. And, they have job listings for Durango. Don't let the ski jobs fool you. They have at least 50 viable (and interesting) openings online.

    New MBA Program

(February 11, 1997): If you've gotten your MBA and are still desperately seeking a job, you might want to look at MBA Central. It's an interesting new service that forgoes all of the online database searching. You answer email queries with their special software.

It works like this. Download their software (or fill in the online form and they'll mail it to you). Take about 30 minutes to fill in the material they require. Send in your registration.....Presto! Big companies in search of MBAs will send you email. You simply reply using their software. This gives the companies easy to digest packets of resumes in a standardized format.

While we noticed lots of schools whose alumni have used the service, there seemed to be little if anything representing the companies or job types and locations in the MBA Central advertising literature. Before you invest the time and energy in setting up and using their system, you might want to ask them how many jobs they have from which companies. Their email address for questions is info@mbacentral.com

    Gub'mint Jobs Site

(February 10, 1997): Here's a useful new website for government jobseekers. The Government Job Source has direct links to State Government Job information (State jobs in 27 states) and job listings in individual federal agencies. The site is a product of The Job Source (a twice-monthly publication listing current job opportunities in state and federal government). Their goal, we assume, is to interest you in their publication. The connection is a bit tenuous, but the links are very useful.
