Companies With Job Listings
October 27, 1996 --- We've revised and expanded our Companies with Joblistings section. It now features almost 1500 employers, their home pages and a link to their joblistings.

Resume Preparation Tips

October 25, 1996 --- Take a look at Recruit Media. They provide a very clear description of their "CV" requirements, cleverly disguised as advice for preparing a resume. When a recruiter or employer provides thes sorts of "hints", you can be sure that your resume will be evaluated, in part, by how well you can follow instructions. Be prepared to modify your credentials package to conform with the desires of your targets.

Exposure Opportunity

October 24, 1996 --- This note come through our email. It sounds like an interesting opportunity to gain some exposure if you've made a recent risky career change.

    FOR IMMEDIATE POSTING:

Have you made a significant career change? If so, we are eager to speak with you.

Journalist seeks people for a noncommercial endeavor who:

    • Are between 30 and 55 years old
    • Have made a dramatic career change (second career unrelated to first)
    • Are at any point in the pursuit of a second career
    • Have found success and or have failed
    • Are willing to risk everything to pursue a dream

Unfortunately, we cannot use you if you:

    • Have a financial safety net and can afford to do anything
    • Are a retiree taking up second career
    • Wanted a lifestyle change - geographically, etc.

All are invited to respond. For more information, please email Research Project at <ivchenko@openix.com> or fax 201-886-1190.

Golden Oldies

October 23, 1996 --- It must be greatest hits week on First Steps In The Hunt. Here's another:
Old Favorites
October 22, 1996 --- It's hard to believe that there's such a thing as old favorites on the web. But, we've got a couple.
    • After you've got a working email resume, stop by Extreme Resume Drop. They offer a service that allows you to ship your resume to 200 companies at the push of a button. We tend to think of corporate resumes as a landscape that has a hole where your resume should be. Increasingly, hiring decisions only turn into advertising once the internal database has been "mined". We think it's important that you get your credentials into as many hands as possible.

So, You Want To Be A Webmaster?
October 21, 1996 --- In what we think is the beginning of a trend, Webmaster Magazine convened a professional forum to discuss:
What are webmasters? What do they do? What kind of skills do they need? What do they earn? Should they be certified? How do employers recruit and retain them? Where do they fit into the organization? Where's the profession going? We have assembled a set of resources and a panel of experts to help you answer these and related issues about "webmastery". Drop in on our online forum to ask questions, find answers, share observations and learn more about this dynamic, evolving profession and its implications for your business, or just delve into the other information you'll find here.
If you're at all interested in being part of a company's web organization, this is a must read.
