Getting It
Net-Temps gets it. The service, which competes with DICE and Contract Employment Weekly, has completely and dramatically revamped their website, focusing on the needs and requirements of their customers.
Building on the public relations windfall from their association with Netscape, Net-Temps has expanded and refined the functionality of their site to include:
Phil, a web spider, or crawler, that you can direct at your web site . The spider locates documents published on web sites and brings them back to Net-Temps to be indexed, allowing them to build a constantly-updated searchable database. This is a great place to have your HTML resume listed.
Keep your eyes on this team. They learn and adapt vey quickly and are pioneering the future of the web.

Internships and Volunteer Positions Sometimes, the hardest part of a job hunt or an industry change is finding a way to meet experience requirements without having any experience. The traditional, and very effective, solution is to develop hands-on experience through volunteer positions or internships.
Checking Out Your Target
Sometimes, the best you can get is a way to research things offline. Once you've zeroed in on a target, use their 800 number to find out more about them. Use your imagination...get the annual report, talk to the PR office, find out what the folks in Customer Service think about the company. This handy little entry will search for their 800 number.

Finding Opportunities
Reading Newsgroups and reviewing Job Ads on big systems is a time consuming but relatively pasive approach. If you want to invest more energy (and get better results) focus on your professional specialty. Yahoo remains the premier subject oriented index. Go there, look up your area and investigate the Professional Associations and related companies.
You can use this form to search Yahoo!
Editor and Publisher Interactive is a great example of a professional resource with job listings (on the "home" page) for editors and publishers for Online Newspapers.
