ArchivesExpect the Recruiting Industry to get caught up in the emerging online privacy debate. The temptation to merge resume data with other readily available personal information is far too great to expect that it will be missed as a market opportunity. While we believe that increased concentrations of personal data for marketing and demographic purposes is a likely and generally positive development, early abuses of the information make government regulation a likely component of the near future of our industry.
For a good set of introductory tutorials, see: Most of the conventional advice available about building website traffic is just one way of looking at things. The basic idea in most current approaches is to build a site that draws traffic to you. We think that an equally valid approach is to go where the traffic is. Recruiters who use USENET newsgroups understand this principle. It is the basis of the price charged by the many sites that post thousands of job listings. We think that there is another, largely untried, approach. We recently reviewed the amazing array of career resources provided by the WinWay Corporation. WinWay sells job hunting related software and has assembled an impressive array of tools, advice and links for candidates. The question we keep asking is: "When is the explosion in job hunting materials going to calm down?" The WinWay site should be the envy of most Recruiters. Every day, more and more firms enter the game offering similar (though not usually as good) material. Why not combine forces?
SAIC (Science Applications International Corp.) is an employee owned consulting firm specializing in a broad range of technologies from energy to computer science. They offer a very large range of employment opportunities on the site but the most interesting feature is their Guide to Equity Compensation As a recruiter (internal or external) it's inevitable that you'll be called upon to negotiate compensation packages that include some form of Equity compensation. Bookmark this site as a tutorial. Yesterday, we visited the Westech Career Expo which is one of the many operations of the company behind the Virtual Job Fair and High Tech Career Magazine. It's an amazing sight. Hundreds of High Tech Recruiters crammed into a small hall in a convention center with thousands of job applicants (in their best suits and dresses) gathering bags of recruiting literature. We developed a renewed respect for the importance of fully integrating Internet and non-Internet recruiting methods into a seamless package as a way to reach candidates. We scoffed when we first saw Internet Link Exchange. The small company provides a rotating pool of banner ads. Organized as a cooperative, each member supplies a banner ad to the rotating pool and places a block of HTML in their pages. The Internet Link Exchange server then ships advertising to the site. The core premise is that all of the member Websites gain by promoting each other. After following their progress for a couple of months, we've become convinced that joining the Internet Link Exchange is one of the easiest ways available to increase the traffic to your recruiting site. The smaller your traffic, the more likely you are to benefit. Here's where to find the best and latest news in the HR Industry:
