New York City artist Ray Sumser's Characternity is a massive digital image created from over 3,000 visual pop culture references. It features characters from blockbuster cinema, comic books, cartoons, video games and the breadth of visual culture and art. From Mickey Mouse to Moby Dick, Super Mario to Superman, and Godzilla to Galactus, it can be hard to come up with fictional icons not in the picture. Prints can be ordered online.
About Ray Sumser
Raymond Joseph Sumser III was born in Westminster Maryland in 1985, and grew up in Mill Valley, California. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2007 with a dual-major BFA in Painting and Film/Animation/Video as well as a Concentration in Belief Systems, which included coursework at Brown University. In 2009 he became a founding resident at Santa Cruz, CA's Tannery Arts Center, where he curated for the Institute of Contemporary Arts, participated in the County's Open Studios Art Tour, and was a speaker at the Tannery Arts Lecture Series. Sumser had his first solo show at the Mill Gallery in Santa Cruz in 2009 and his second at Treehouse Gallery in San Francisco in 2012. He has completed two successful Kickstarter campaigns, and his work hangs in over 17 countries. In 2012, he moved to New York City's East Village where he maintains a full time indepedendant art practice. He accepts fine art commissions, freelance illustration and videography work.
