The team over at Jobwich has been doing a little guerilla marketing.
Jonathan Hedvat. President of Jobwich, talks about the history of the company.
The Story of Jobwich.com
As an investment banking student at Rutgers University and interning at the world trade center in 2001 - I learned what i didn't want to do.
I didn't want the typical NYC finance job.
So, I thought of ways to start a business with a small amount of capital.
I sold my baseball card collection, but they didn't go for much money.
I was investigating other options when my mother suggested the idea of selling pocket books from last season from various retailers on ebay.
I did that and was able to earn $60,000 in 6 months.
What I didn't like was listing every item time and time again.
I became almost resentful, painstakingly listing each item time after time.
As I was utilizing ebay and seeing that it is a great platform. My friend sat next to an interesting entrepreneur at a Bar Mitzvah. His name was Craig Newmark from Craigslist.
We later modeled a classified website planning to target a few cities, but the more we focused on multiple markets, the less success we had.
So, we narrowed our focus to New York and then to college students, then we started to get more traffic. We also removed the non job related content.
Finding a huge Creative following from our site, we launched CreativeJobsCentral.com in 2004 which has become a profitable business with 15,000 visitors per day.
We also incorporated social networking functions so that everyone on jobwich has a profile. People can post their videos, portfolio, goals, resume and work and education information.
Jobwich traffic is currently around 50,000 people per month. We are constantly looking at how to target NYU & NYC students.
We actually did a Jobwich NYC promotions event recently. Check out the video on YouTube and visit our site at http://www.jobwich.com/
On tuesday we will be giving out notebooks at NYU's stern business school with our logo on it.
