HR Role Considered More Valuable Than Ever
(September 13, 2010)
According to leading recruitment consultancy, Badenoch & Clark, the recession has put HR professionals at the forefront of the business decision-making process, elevating their stature within the workplace.
It seems that in this climate, where identifying cost-efficiencies is the number one objective for so many organisations, senior HR professionals are delivering strong retention strategies and adding value to restructuring plans, leading to greater cost-efficiencies.
"Strategic HR professionals have been pivotal to the strategic direction of the business during the recession, and HR professionals must now take the opportunity to raise their profile for the long-term," according to Sarah Wynn, Associate Director at Badenoch & Clark.
Sarah continues: "In the past, HR professionals have too often felt aggrieved that they are not around the decision-making table and that their contribution to the business goes largely unnoticed. However, in the current climate, it is people and human resources that will make the difference.
"HR professionals have long argued for greater visibility, respect and standing. With the recession putting human resources at the forefront of how businesses can achieve cost-efficiencies, now is the time for HR professionals to show that they can substantially contribute to the business, and ultimately increase their profile.
"There has been a much greater emphasis and importance placed on retention, restructuring and having an effective workforce in recent years - all issues that are managed by HR. If HR professionals can make a contribution at this high level, they will be valued even more, and alongside a consistent and strategic approach, could perhaps eventually lead to a position around the boardroom table.
