Top 25 Highest Paid Men and Top 25 Highest Paid Women

(August 30, 2010)

Federal workers earning double their private counterparts was not a big surprise. In the stories around the water cooler this is a common topic. Not only do you hear about great pay and benefits but also how "easy" the federal jobs tend to be. (This is the watercooler of a private counterpart.) The story often ends with the idea that everyone should get a government job.

In the Fortune section of CNN Money there are two lists detailing the best-compensated male and female executives. The first response to some of these numbers from the watercooler clutch was "What could he possibly do to be worth 350 million a year? Then, a comparative look at the Top 25's left a few of us wondering how the 25th man on the list is still making 3.3 million more than the number one woman on the list. We created a chart and a graph for your viewing entertainment.

They prepared the chart by looking at companies with more than $1 billion in revenues that filed proxies by Aug. 15. Total compensation includes annualized base salary, discretionary and performance-based bonus payouts, the grant-date fair value of new stock and option awards and other compensation. If relevant, other compensation includes severance payments.
