2010 MonsterCollege Annual Entry Level Job Outlook Survey

(May 20, 2010) - The State of College Graduate Employment

MonsterCollege has surveyed over 1,200 recent college graduates and those expecting to graduate in the next several years in our annual 2010 Entry-Level Job Outlook Survey. This study provides an inside view of recruiting and job-seeking activity on Monster and MonsterCollege within the United States.

Our comprehensive results show trends in college recruiting and the perception of the market from college students and recent grads. Some findings reveal that current college students expect a longer job search to land a job and recent grads have a high expectation of their graduating job market. Our complete findings are available in the attached document.

Key Findings from the Report:
    * 78% say family and friends are the most useful for finding jobs compared to 74% and 75% in 2009 and 2008 respectively; using connections has become more popular.

    * Online job boards (large and niche) continue to be useful to the College seeker with niche boards showing an increase to 65% from last year's 60%.

    * Almost two-thirds of college workers are reporting that they have graduated with student loans. This is slightly up from 2009 levels suggesting more college students requiring financial aid. 66% current college workers versus 63% in 2009.

    * Another sign that current college seekers are more confident in job prospects are the decrease in those willing to consider jobs outside of their chosen field. 49% would settle for a job outside their interest versus 58% last year.
In addition to students, MonsterCollege surveyed over 200 companies who hire college graduates for entry level jobs. For Employers, this report is helpful in understanding recent market trends and many may find it helps guide strategic hiring for 2010.

Review the research.
