AfterCollege Releases List of Top 20 Cities for Entry-Level Job Seekers
(May 29, 2009)
Did your city make it on the Top 20 cities for Entry-Level Job Seekers?
Job search snapshot reveals U.S. cities and job disciplines with the highest number of employers posting entry-level jobs
AfterCollege released its list today of the top 20 U.S. cities with entry-level employers. The list was compiled by taking a snapshot of entry-level jobs and internships currently available on AfterCollege and on AfterCollege career networks. Rankings were determined based on the number of unique employers posting opportunities in each city, versus taking the number of opportunities posted per city, in order to avoid any skewing of data by employers posting a large number of opportunities. An April, 2009 survey by AfterCollege revealed that nearly 80% of college students and recent graduates were having difficulty finding work. Despite this trend, employers continue to advertise entry-level opportunities.
The cities that made the list are:
1. Chicago, IL
2. Phoenix, AZ
3. Indianapolis, IN
4. New York, NY
5. Atlanta, GA
6. Philadelphia, PA
7. Denver, CO
8. Cincinnati, OH
9. Orlando, FL
10. Boston, MA
11. Tampa, FL
12. Charlotte, NC
13. Columbus, OH
14. San Diego, CA
15. Nashville, TN
16. Seattle, WA
17. Louisville, KY
18. Pittsburgh, PA
19. Kansas City, MO
20. San Francisco, CA
Sales jobs topped the list of available opportunities, followed by positions in healthcare, finance, customer service, and information technology. "The current economic climate is creating challenges for college students and recent graduates who are looking for jobs, but there are opportunities out there," said Roberto Angulo, CEO of AfterCollege. "We encourage job seekers to be diligent in their search and to tap every resource at their disposal, including friends, family, faculty and classmates".
