Coaching Ourselves

- Coaching Ourselves is an approach to management and leadership development for the organization with self directed peer-learning groups. Started by Henry Mintzberg and Phil LeNir, this low overhead approach lies between the informal learning that should occur all the time and more formally structured training, enabling participants to build and share knowledge that is always timely, always relevant, and always owned by the participant.
Well known authors, such as David Ulrich, Michael Beer, Marshall Goldsmith and Henry Mintzberg develop the CoachingOurselves topics covering a wide range of managerial concepts and competencies. Founded in 2006 CoachingOurselves is now available in six languages.

When times get really rough, the budget for management development is one of the easiest to cut. After all, the costs of development come immediately while the benefits usually come later.
CoachingOurselves costs are low. Yet its impact can be high. That is because CoachingOurselves is not just management development: it is also organization development. The managers are accountable for changing themselves and their organization. People are mobilized to develop innovative solutions for immediate problems.
CoachingOurselves was developed during the dot-com crisis, when a group of line managers in a high tech company, with little time and budget, had to do something, and fast -- for example keeping their project on schedule after a 30% budget cut.
