(February 4, 2008) I remember starting my first job. I would pack my lunch in a paper bag and head out the door early to be sure and arrive on time. This was no easy task with an hour and a half commute. (Thank goodness for those extra large coffees from 7-11.)
The position was with a very large corporation. Much to my surprise there was not much training - I was just thrown in the deep end.
The other day I was discussing the importance of training with an industry veteran. As we drilled into the topic, the need for training in "search" kept coming up. We also reviewed the state of the economy and strain on employees due to layoffs. As one thing leads to another, a new product from BrownBagRecruiter.com was mentioned. This is a project started by Amitai Givertz to provide reasonably priced, time efficient recruiter training. The programs can actually be consumed during a lunch break and cover a wide range of search topics extensively.
Here is a listing of training topics:

And, here is what the creator has to say about his project:
About
My name is AMITAI GIVERTZ and I am responsible for this site and the BROWN BAG RECRUITER initiative. It is a labor of love, supported by sponsors and special friends who "get it."
Our goal is to provide an ongoing, high-quality, community-based training program at virtually no cost. We also aim to create a cadre of recruiters physically located in the South Florida metro area, sharing the resources here with everyone who has an interest.
BROWN BAG RECRUITER is a training experience, an experiment, a work in progress. It is meant to meet the needs of local recruiters who want to learn new things, meet new friends and improve their overall effectiveness.
The objectives are simple:
Help corporate recruiters develop at a pace that is consistent with their interests, schedules and budget.
Give committed participants an advantage. That includes a systematic approach to getting the job done and access to the tools and techniques practiced by recruiters who are at the top of their game.
Support local businesses that want to improve their ability to find, attract, hire and grow good people and are willing to do something about it.
Facilitate meaningful and profitable relationships for every one who is involved in the network we are creating.
Food for the Mind, Body and Spirit
Each series of 6-10 sessions that make up the program's learning tracks start with a half-day intensive kick-off session. These four and five-hour workshops lay the foundations for each track. They can serve as a self-contained, standalone workshop too.
We meet regularly for a couple of hours in West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and/or Miami to network, share a meal and move through the curriculum.
Full-day workshops, recruiter clinics and online events are regularly scheduled as part of the mix.
One-on-one or on-site support, training and/or coaching is available if it's needed.
Pricing for the online sessions are reasonable.
