We were very please when another expert on the aging workforce weighed in to add to yesterdays article, Keeping Your Workforce Intact. Arthur Koff, founder and CEO of RetiredBrains.com sent over some statistics and an article for tomorrow.
Background Information (based on information from 2007):
301,621,157 US POPULATION
219,259,405 US POPULATION over 20
82,361,752 US POPULATION under 20
Of course when any employer has a look at the BLS chart older population by age group they can easily see what the coming demographic problem will be.
We all know that the US population is aging but these figures bring it home in spades. 2020 is only 11 years away and it shows 75,813,321 Americans over the age of 60. If that does not get your attention nothing will.
The employers I have spoken with are mostly aware of this coming problem. Unfortunately the HR departments are running so lean both with regard to budget and number of employees that most firms are putting off what they know is necessary to do now. They just don't have the manpower or funds. This is going to be a major problem in the coming years.
