The New Trovix

(September 26, 2007) Some time ago, I visited the Trovix offices down in the googleplex. I was impressed and breathy.

What separates them from their peers is the technology in the search engine process. The Trovix product mines resume data more thoroughly than anything we've ever seen. It has the capacity to intuit a skill set from a larger acronym. It learns. It adopts the preferences of its users. It is reputed to be able to learn nuanced differences of a company's culture. (interbiznet archives)

Monday, I spent a large chunk of time on the phone with Trovix learning about their new job board. They claim to have figured out how to use a resume as a discriminating search query. The proposition is: you give them your resume, they give you very targeted results.

Their plan is to aggregate millions of jobs, making them searchable by the entry of a resume. They would pay for this approach by selling advertising atop the organic search result stream. The advertiser would, in Trovix' view, occupy a place of singular relevance.

Imagine the various job aggregators delivering actual results. Hmmm, that means a search for marketing director doesn't pick up every single instance of marketing and director. Yes, that would be an improvement.

I have no question that the Trovix technology could transform the industry. Right now, it's just a piece of technology with no inventory of advertisers or candidates. They will have to buy their way into effectiveness just like everyone else.
