Recruiting Roadshow
(June 14, 2007) Online community has to have a physical component for it to work, particularly in business settings. Getting to know people online is powerful and important. Getting to know them in the flesh is the thing that makes it really accelerate.
For some time, I've been hinting around at the notion that I would be holding a series of get-togethers around the country. The Recruiting Roadshow (as I've taken to calling it) is beginning to spread its wings. The core idea is that the real heart of Recruiting community will be found in local neighborhoods.
So, over the next year or so I plan to take the Recruiting Roadshow Unconference to a city per month. It will involve a combination of content and networking exercises designed to introduce local recruiters to each other. The theory is that this will deepen and strengthen the industry.
The first event has been arranged and will be held in Minnesota on the 20th of July. It is being hosted by Best Buy. Don Ramer of Arbita has agreed to provide lunch.
Like all of these Roadshow/Unconferences, most of the work is being done by a fantastic local team including Steven Rothberg, Paul DeBettignies of Nerd Search and Josh Kahn of Best Buy/Accenture. More details will be forthcoming.
It's a trial. I expect to have the second in Miami in September. Then, I'll be looking to find local teams in Atlanta, DC, New York, Boston, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Austin and Toronto. One city a month (except August and December).
