OnRec
(September 18, 2006)
We're fresh back from the Onrec Conference in Chicago. It was a chance to spend
time with old friends and meet some new ones. The content was superlative. Read about it
here,
here.
here,
here and
here.Daughter Bridget and I presented
a talk on MultiGenerational Recruiting. Here are
the slides. Joel Cheesman made a video. We'll point to it soon.
The event was a huge success and paves the way
for further penetration of the market by this international company. In spite of
the fact that an industry standard trade show was going on in Florida, OnRec
drew a host of innovators and visionaries who entertained and educated a crowd
of industry veterans. It was a sensational mix of intimacy, networking,
education and opportunity.
Here are the important things we saw in the
process:
- David Hurst is going to be a big success in
the States. The OnRec
Team demonstrated the gap in current Recruiting events and filled it
-
Peter Weddle may be the best thing that ever happened to job boards. His
new association (IAEWS
) aims to bring core credibility to the
universe of job boards. (Here's
an alternate view and
another and
another).
- Hank Stringer has become the industry's
talk show host. Next time you need your panel moderated, hire Hank.
- John Younger,
Accolo's guiding light,
persuaded the audience that online Recruiting is a myth.
- Don Ramer, CEO of
Arbita, has become the industry's
diplomat of choice.
-
Steven
Rothberg nailed the issues in social networks and MySpace. Here's the
video.
-
Cheezhead is a network catalyst. Things seem to percolate when he's
around.
-
John Bell (Boxwood)
showed the path to undiscovered pools of candidates.
- Shally
demonstrated international search techniques. .(Get their
cheatsheets)
-
Louis Vong
(TMP) wowed the crowd with visions of Text Recruiting. Here's to hoping that
the industry fills up with bright lights like
Louis.
- The
RPOA (Recruitment
Process Outsourcing Association) might actually make a difference. It's
unusual to see this sort of collection of entrepreneurs.
-
Experience.com is inventing new ideas. We'd say "Find yourself. Then,
finding a job is easy." is one of the smartest things we've heard in a
while.
Onrec is setting new standards for excellence in
the trade show business. Get to one of them.
