Go Jasons, Go (June 08, 2006) Jobster bought Recruiting.com. The animal has the hilarious soprano version play-by-play of how it all went down. Michael Specht covers it here. Gautam mentions it. The Seattle PI weighs in here. We've been watching the deal take shape for a while, Recruiting.com is a powerful and interesting puzzle piece in the Jobster gambit. Jason Goldberg at Jobster is a deep believer in things that are Web 2.0. Jason Davis is a poster child for Blog based community development. The Recruiting.com domain name is the secret prize in this crackerjack package. So what does it mean? Jobster is a Venture capital funded experiment in state of the art employment advertising. Every single aspect of the enterprise, including all of its acquisitions, are forms of advertising or advertising distribution vehicles. Jobster is defining and expanding the definition of employment advertising. Jobster is amassing an arsenal of tools that can be assembled to form an array of offerings. By acquiring technical companies in their most nascent form, they acquire talent in a clever way that sets them up as experts in Talent Acquisition and deployment. At the same time, that very talent becomes the engine inside the Jobster brand. Sourcing, screening and shortlisting, the "Three Esses", can be accomplished through a variety of means. The more electronic and repeatable, the more value that can be delivered at a reasonable price point. Jobster is investing in publishing (targeted email, blog distribution and aggregation, AdSense style ad distribution) content acquisition (spidered/XML content aggregation, RSS Aggregation), content development (various books, Blog processes), referral products and so on. The central theme is targeted ads and targeted distribution. They routinely explore every method, realizing the commonalities and moving to incorporate them. To a traditional observer, Jobster morphs too quickly to be categorized. It used to be a referral tool, now it's a candidate acquisition tool. Ultimately, we think it's the advertising agency of the future. One key insight to draw from Jobster is the fact that an Employment Brand is, in itself, a targeted niche oriented communication. Jobster is articulating the methods that will be used to attract and acquire talent for department sized Employment Brands that nest within the larger Company brand. By acquiring, subsidizing and improving the baseline watering hole for Web 2.0 Recruiters, Jobster proves its hip-ness and relevance to a cynical audience. That's the way that enduring institutions are built. Nice work, Jasons. We keep updating the blogroll. There are now 141 Recruiting related blogs. John Sumser (remove nospam) . - . Permalink . - .
