As Usual, EYKIW (May 09, 2006) Eekieoo is how you pronounce it. EYKIW is the acronym for Everything You Know is Wrong. The Human temptation to find certainty amidst waves of great change becomes inescapably visible from time to time. The stable certainty of the Post dot com Google era, already splintering in the periphery, has developed serious rips in its fabric. We're very heavy search engine users, so we know (as do our colleagues in sourcing research) that the vitality of search engine results has been declining for a couple of years. You simply can not find what you used to be able to find. Some of the problem is the blog explosion (our blogroll grew by 5% in three days), Some of it spam. Some of it is the evolution of the SEO industry. Generally speaking, a long look at a search engine will produce commercial operations devoted to getting your attention. They use spamming techniques, search engine optimization (seo) or out and out purchased positions. The original delight we found in Google (it always seemed to find what we wanted) has been replaced by its opposite. The people who want to find us now dominate the search engines. Cheezhead, Joel Cheesman's blog about the seo business, pointed us to the first interesting article on the subject. The Register, in Full-up Google choking on web spam?, they note:
