Download: Integrated Employment Branding Presentation 2005 In Review: 2 The Globalization of Recruiting (December 29, 2005) Gautam Ghosh was our top nominee for Best Recruiting Blog of 2005. His blog is entitled : "Gautam Ghosh on Management: Gautam's thoughts on Organizations, Work, People, Strategy, Learning, Knowledge, Innovation and High Performance. Focused on India, but spanning the globe." It's a stunning set of perspectives on Recruiting, HR and business realities. It's written by an HR manager who, like Jeff Hunter, is demonstrating a world view that adds real value at the corporate strategic table and in the industry as a whole. Mr, Ghosh is Indian and writing from India. If you haven't noticed, an economic miracle is happening in India. Years of patient work developing an infrastructure for technology and encouraging education while building the necessary institutions, India has reached a tipping point. It is no longer an inherently poor country, Rather it is transforming rapidly into a "super power" to use a bit of archaic language. The change means that India is now a competitor in the Global Talent Market. It is now a source and a destination (talent comes from India and goes to India) when for years it was just a supply point. Ghosh's blog is an extraordinary window on that process. It's also an extraordinary window on the mind of the archetype of a great HR Manager. Both India and Australia have spent real money on Recruitment Advertising campaigns in London. Now that the SOX recruiting wars are coming to a close, one of the hottest jobs in the US is "manager in foreign country". The business growth that is changing the world in China, India, Eastern Europe, Russia, South America, Australia and New Zealand is prompting a global scramble for leadership talent. If you are an American manager born in a different country, the world is your oyster, a broad spectrum of firms are desperate to find people who will work in their countries of origination as the leader/representative of corporate interests. At the same time, Silicon Valley, which was once an aberration for its low Caucasian workforce percentages is becoming the prototype for the workforce future. Recruiting is globalizing and the workplace is becoming international. This is a natural consequence of the demographics of aging. Leadership roles (the trigger for both globalization and local internationalization) are (as we predicted a decade ago) harder and harder to fill. As Recruiting turns its eyes towards the job of filling those slots, the world changes. In 2005, the Globalization of Recruiting came to the forefront. - John Sumser © TwoColorHat.
