Talentism

(December 28, 2005)  The news is out. The judges for the Recruiting.com Best Recruiting Blogs contest have selected Jeff Hunter's Talentism as the Best Overall Recruiting Blog. (We've mentioned Talentism often.)

Hunter hooked us early on with "the stuff that is passing for discourse these days about this market is so poor that I thought it important to bring up a contrary point of view." That was in an essay about vertical job search engines. Although we've known him for a very long time, Jeff's work on his blog has shown him to be shrewder and broader than we'd thought.

Here's what Dave Lefkow from Jobster (and one of our fellow judges in the contest) had to say about Jeff's writing:

"For over a year, I have read Jeff Hunter's Talentism blog with great interest and enthusiasm. As the heading suggests, his blog acts as a three-way intersection for Talent, Business and Technology, providing keen insights, rigorous analysis and valuable context around the role of staffing professional. No other blog – and perhaps no other publication - has delved as deeply into some of the most pressing topics in our profession as Jeff has, from new technologies and outsourcing to quality metrics and productivity. With his characteristic wit, depth of knowledge, and creative, often stream-of-consciousness style explorations of how talent, technology and capital can be utilized in combination to create a competitive advantage in the new economy, Jeff has demonstrated the type of thinking that will be necessary for leading companies to employ when faced with the coming skills shortages in the next decade and beyond."

The judges panel came to the conclusion through an interesting process. Each judge submitted their top 3 choices. (Ours were 1) Gautam Ghosh, 2) systematicHR, 3) My blog of HR, and technology stuff). Dave Lefkow's picks included Talentism in the number one slot. Lefkow's nomination prompted a stampede in Jeff Hunter's direction.

It would be fair, we suppose, to ask why Hunter's blog, which did not win any of the categories in the popular vote, was so easy for the judges to pick. Without speaking for the rest of the panel, we think it's pretty simple.

Over the last twelve or thirteen years, Hunter is the only person in the industry who has played all of the roles...Recruiter, Technical consultant, change manager, entrepreneur, vendor CEO... He's excelled at all of the possible positions in the space. Currently the Director of Recruiting Technology for EA, Jeff is rounding out his experience trying to provide the infrastructure for one of the most competitive, shortage driven talent sectors. Jeff Hunter has thoroughly considered the Recruiting question from each of the possible angles.

Added to his experience is a probing mind and an abiding interest in broader business interest. When Hunter covers a topic, he is in the business of improving ther overall industry. It's the combination of insight, experience, writing and smarts that make him such an easy pick.

Congratulations, Jeff.
