Jason Goldberg


(November 29, 2005)  Among other things, Jobster has the best corporate blog in the HR space. (Like most things in business this is a snapshot rather than a lifetime achievement award.) Jason Goldberg, the CEO, is currently setting the standard against which all others will be measured.

It's a tough ambition. As the HR Blogosphere fills with entrants from all parts of the known universe, the competition intensifies and the noise level increases dramatically. Consistently delivering the best content and audience is a Herculean chore. Goldberg (who produces volumes of well written stuff) seems to be everywhere.

Recently, Jason launched a "5 Questions" interview format. Goldber is asking, get this, his customers and potential customers to be interviewed in public. The format is 5 Standard Questions:

1.    What are the most rewarding aspects of your job?
2.    What are the most challenging aspects of your job?
3.    What are your passions in life?
4.    What big problem either in your work or in the broader hiring community would you most like to see fixed in the next 5 years?
5.    What are the top positions you are currently hiring for, or what positions are you seeing most in demand?

Not only do the customers answer the mail, they do an impressive job of it. This approach, interviewing customers and potential customers, is one we're going to see a lot of. By giving away attention and promotion, Goldberg is solving the compelling content question very elegantly.

Who do you want to read your corporate blog? Your customers and potential customers. Do they want to read about you or your products? No. Waht do they want to read about? Themselves and their peers. Goldberg is creating a powerhouse that takes less work (because the right audience is writing the stuff).
