Authoria-Hire Merger (June 20, 2005) We spent several hours last week with Tod Loofbourrow and Hank Stringer. Tod, who runs Authoria, and Hank were on a small mission to fill a few of us in on the merger between Hire and Authoria. Tod is the quintessential Harvard educated businessman. Focused on the big picture and constantly grooming his company towards his vision, Loofbourrow exudes the confidence of a man who has built has company steadily over the past eight years. Stringer, well known for his Texas graciousness, is another veteran of the build your own business game. Together, they were poster children for our industry. When you add Hire.com and Authoria, you get a full spectrum HR department on a desktop. The new enterprise capitalizes on Authoria's installed base of 7.5 Million users while giving those users increased control over their own destinies. The combination of the Hire.com toolset with Authoria's complement of workplace "advisor" tools makes for the industry's first comprehensive HR Management suite. The basic deal at Authoria is providing a combination of relevant information, decision support and wisdom at the desktop. By converting HR experience into self-service guidance, the company excels at practical knowledge management, enabling productive growth without the usual tail of administrative baggage. Approaches like Authoria's are essential for the navigation of upcoming demographic challenges. By adding a Recruitment function to their offering, Authoria has succeeded in distinguishing the managerial aspects of HR from the administrative in a single product line. Leaving pension, benefits and payroll in the hands of transaction oriented layers, the Authoria model suggests that HR management can be documented and distributed around the organization. The new company, called Authoria, will be headquartered in Waltham, MA which will now be known as the epicenter of online recruiting. Many of the Hire.com veterans, including Hank will stay in Texas, working on the transition. As we've always said, "Hire.com is distinctly different from the rest of the market." Its approach, which focuses on recruiting and relationship development rather than data accumulation, delivers what the competitors promise. The Hire.com toolset is a knowledge management approach to Recruiting. The fit with Authoria is perfect.
