Driving Traffic 6
(June 16, 2005) The goal of any traffic development effort is to get the right number of the right people to visit your employment website. Too many visitors of the right type simply increases your costs (although you may want to build them into a talent pool for later). Too many visitors of the wrong type just increase your costs and waste your time.

It's a goldilocks problem: How do you get just the right people in just the right number to visit your website at just the right time and interact with the site in a way that produces just the right number of qualified candidates for the number of different jobs that you plan to fill so that you can fill the positions as they become open?

That is:

  1. Just the right people
  2. In just the right number
  3. To visit your website
  4. At just the right time
  5. To interact with the site in a way that produces
  6. Just the right number of qualified candidates
  7. For the number of different jobs that
  8. You plan to fill so that
  9. You can fill the positions
  10. As they become open?

If your web offering/strategy isn't designed to accomplish at least these 10 integrated objectives, you might consider taking it down. Without a clear analysis of these underlying objectives (all measurable and controllable and all involving external variables), the website is just a bluff. You have no idea whether it increases or decreases your workload or your success.
