(February 15, 2005) - How does a visitor get to a corporate employment site? That's the question posed by a recent study conducted by the folks at
CareerXRoads and CareerJournal (the Wall Street Journal's career site.) By evaluating the behavior of 634 online job seekers at CareerJournal, the surveyors were able to tell that:
Most job board visitors (92%) check out the company's employment site before applying to a job they see on a job board;
Once they (the 92%) visit the company website, 94% of them say they are very likely to check out other jobs the company offers;
While visiting the company's job site, 64% said they applied to other jobs without ever returning to the job board where they started;
84% said that they took a look at jobs on websites they visited for a different purpose;
Well over half of the respondents said that they had applied for a job online as a result of visiting the company's website for an entirely different purpose.
Simply, the study underlines two key facts:
Buying job boards ads/postings is a convenient and important way to acquire traffic for a corporate employment site; and,
Making sure that there are links to the job page all over the company website is a key strategy for acquiring additional traffic.
As long as we're on the subject of CareerJournal, you might want to check out their HR site. Here are just a few of the gems in their inventory of useful articles:
