Up or Down

(July 20. 2004) - Sweltering summer months in the midst of a pre-election economic stall drag on, caught between hope and the dread of continued stickiness. The election seems to be leaning modestly towards a Kerry victory which will slow things down while we watch the new team sort things out. We anticipate very contradictory behavior from the measurements over the next 90 days.

Here's a quick set of articles to check out. Their signals are contradictory as well.

From Jobwire:

Solve the Riddle, Get a Job

The mysterious Silicon Valley billboard on Highway 101 had computer geeks abuzz. All that appeared was a mysterious mathematical message. Tech site ZDNet reports a post on a "blog" (an online journal) hosted by New York's Fog Creek software as saying that the answer translates to 7427466391.com, a website that reveals a second puzzle that eventually links to the Google search engine. On the page, it states: "One thing we learned while building Google is that it's easier to find what you're looking for if it comes looking for you. What we're looking for are the best engineers in the world. And here you are." Google is noted for such unorthodox methods. One favorite tactic - sending ads to those doing advanced mathematical research on Google.
