Advertising Networks III (October 10, 2003) - We're pretty sure that the folks at Monster rarely think of themselves as a network. But, with discrete operations in at least 20 countries and a hearty alliance network, you'd have to be willing to argue the case. Although each of the local monster sites is designed to produce in-country results, we're certain that the firm offers its transnational customers a variety of package deals for cross-cultural recruiting. When thinking about the growth and expansion of Recruitment advertising networks, Monster has to be a part of the equation. Stepstone, HotJobs new global network partner, spins their network as an alliance that enables "companies with global recruiting needs to access leading job sites across North America and Europe through a single point of contact, whilst receiving local recruitment expertise, service and support." Goals include the sharing of best practices and the development of international standards amongst the partners. There are a number of companies whose networks boil down to an updated version of the 20th Century advertising agency> They range in complexity and sophistication from media planning, targeting and feedback systems to simple cross-posting services. At the sophisticated end, Hodes IQ optimizes customer expenditures with a feedback loop that allows for in-process course corrections. At the other end of the spectrum are the Job Advertising Distribution services (JADs) who reduce administrative time by enabling a single form for multiple services. Examples of this kind of operation include WhoToChoose, GoJobs, Employment911, RecruitUSA, PostOnce, eQuest. At this point in history, no recruiting staff member should ever be entering the details of a job ad more than once. Almost everywhere we look, we encounter small networks of job boards that exist because the underlying technology has been reproduced in adjacent opportunities. There are job boards everywhere. Some of their owners are smart enough to realize that the technology is pretty simple and repeatable. Little CareerSite recently merged with PowerOneMedia, for example, to form an interesting addition to the newspaper competition. Boxwood Technology sits on a universe of 100 clients waiting to be networked. There are lots others with lots of upside potential. So, we've identified the ten most serious players in the Job Board Network game:
Tomorrow, we'll start to look at the viability and differences of business models, factors that drive network success and other competitive distinctions between these players. John
