Fincareer
(October 17, 2001) Calling itself the "network for financial careers", Fincareer is moving towards the domestic American market. The company is exclusively focused on the Financial markets, a high profile/high value niche. Their approach, revenue sharing with media partners while taking full responsibility for sales is a hands down winner. With a number of European victories under their belts, their planned launches in the US begin in early 2002.
We like the underlying business model. Typically, willingness to take responsibility for regionalized sales development is beyond the capacity (or interest) of technical providers who simply deliver Job-Board-In-A-Box functionality. The Fincareer approach gives operational incentive to media outlets that currently have no Recruitment advertising revenue streams. As a Fincareer partner, you get a revenue stream for little or no work.
To date, the company has tied down all of the major nichey publications in Europe as a prelude to their launch in the domestic market. Round 1 of their entry will be a detailed arrangement with Reuters that gives them real time access to over 1,000,000 working traders. As mentioned, the niche, coupled with industry reach, is at the heart of their strategy.
The investment world is a high dollar environment with about three million employees, all at relatively high salary. It's the perfect place in which to work the bugs out of a model that can then be migrated to downstream markets. It's surprising that this niche, which could have been owned by someone like 6FigureJobs.com is so open, even today.
Back in the days of dot com fever, there was a huge emphasis on players with a "first mover advantage". Fincareers brings to mind the fact that it's way less expensive to learn from others' mistakes before you make your move. Their impending American launch is a reaffirmation of our assertions of market vibrancy.
