Survey Sez
((June 22, 2001) National market penetration is a difficult challenge. Without the well heeled foundation of a huge player, the question is speculative at best. While we know, intellectually, that 6FigureJobs.com is a major player on the East Coast, we rarely encounter them here in the Valley (unless they happen to be sponsoring Imus).
The company recently completed a survey of its customers that sheds interesting light on our industry and its growth. Here are the top level results:
Job Site Usage and Expected Spending for 2001 Remains Strong
- 43% of respondents currently utilize 3-5 job sites.
- 20% of respondents currently utilize 6 or more job sites.
- While 49% expect to spend less then $10,000 on recruitment sites in
2001, 25% expect to spend up to $25,000, 13% expect to spend up to
$50,000, 6% expect to spend up to $100,000 and 5% expect to spend over
$100,000.
- 42% anticipate that their spending on job sites will remain equal to
last year, 36% anticipate increased spending on job sites in 2001, and
only 22% expect their spending on job sites to decrease in 2001.
Email Triumphs Over Snail-mail
- Fully 97% of respondents indicated that they prefer to receive candidate
resumes electronically via email or "one-click apply" functionality vs.
regular mail.
Ease of Use and Broad Reach Cited as Top "e-cruiting" Benefits
When asked to select the best attributes of Internet recruiting,
respondents cited:
- Ease of Use 72%
- Broad Reach 68%
- Speed of Posting 64%
- 24-hour access 63%
- Cost-efficiency 51%
When asked to select the biggest drawbacks, respondents cited:
- Lack of Quality Candidates 54%
- Too Many Responses 47%
- Cost 46%
- Inability to Screen Responses 32%
- Trackability of Responses 27%
In addition, the survey suggests that current salary information is the single most important piece of data missing from online recruiting transactions.
Frankly, we're surprised that no one has yet figured out how to make a deal with the folks at salary.com to place that data directly into the resume flow. It's a no-brainer that would immediately distinguish one resume source from another.
