A recent nationwide compensation survey
reports that although linking individual goals to the company's business
goals is the primary objective of short-term incentives, 30 percent of
those surveyed don't find these plans effective in improving organizational
performance. One thinks it worthwhile to research why not. (Hint: look at
relationships within corporate structure.)

Market Report
The dollar drifted lower during the trading session, in what has become a
rather thin market. This volatile price action is laying waste to traders'
positions as first the shorts were squeezed, followed by the longs. No follow-through in the Euro,
and given the recent spate of economic news out of Euroland, this certainly leaves a question mark
in one's mind as to the next direction. But talk out of Europe seems to bode well
for the economic prospectus for next year. So, one might also want to tag along
with the HKMA and look to buy the Euro at these levels for the medium term.
Corporate Layoffs Surge
After hitting a 25-month low in October, U.S. corporations returned to the
job-chopping block, announcing 50,907 layoffs in November, a 123-percent
surge over the previous month, according to Challenger, Gray &
Christmas, an international outplacement firm.
