In The News SumTotal Systems, Inc., the innovator in strategic Human Capital Management (HCM) solutions, announced that Cbeyond, a provider of IT and communications services to small business throughout the United States, and SumTotal customer, was recently named a 2011 BEST Award winner by the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD). Paychex, Inc. reported total revenue of $563.1 million for the three months ended August 31, 2011 (Q1), an increase of 9% from $518.3 million for the same period last year. Net income increased 13% to $148.9 million and diluted earnings per share increased 14% to $0.41 per share. Contributing to the financial results for the first quarter is the inclusion of SurePayroll, Inc. and ePlan Services, Inc., which were acquired in the second half of the fiscal year ended May 31, 2011. Saba, the premier People Cloud provider, reported financial results for its first quarter ended August 31, 2011. Total GAAP revenues were $30.6 million in the first quarter of fiscal year 2012, up 13% from $27.2 million in the same quarter last year. Total non-GAAP revenues in the first quarter of fiscal year 2012 were $30.9 million, up 14%, compared to $27.2 million in the same quarter last year. Non-GAAP revenues reflect the impact to revenue of fair value adjustments to deferred revenue due to acquisitions. (read more) The Obama administration asked the Supreme Court on Wednesday to hear a case concerning the 2010 health care overhaul law. The development, which came unexpectedly fast, makes it all but certain that the court will soon agree to hear one or more cases involving challenges to the law, with arguments by the spring and a decision by June, in time to land in the middle of the 2012 presidential campaign. The index for September is 90, up three points from the 87 reported for August. This is the first time the index has reached 90 this year. With the exception of the typical dip experienced during the July 4 holiday period, weekly index data show that staffing employment has been edging upward since February.
