President Barack Obama on Friday said Americans were flooding back into the job market, as the economy slowly improved after a barn-busting report showed 290,000 jobs were created in April.
From the BLS:
Nonfarm payroll employment rose by 290,000 in April, the unemployment rate
edged up to 9.9 percent, and the labor force increased sharply, the U.S.
Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on May 7, 2010. Job gains occurred in manufactur-
ing, professional and business services, health care, and leisure and hospi-
tality. Federal government employment also rose, reflecting continued hiring
of temporary workers for Census 2010. (read more)

Lack of clarity biggest threat to teams
Poor leadership, vague communication and the absence of a clear purpose are stopping team success in Britain's workplaces, according to workplace psychologists OPP.
OPP surveyed thousands of people to find out what the public believes are the hurdles to the success of a team.
- Almost one in six respondents (16%) admitted that they did not know what was preventing their team from performing better.
- However nearly half (48%) believed that poor leadership was a hurdle to team success. Almost as many (46%) thought that internal communication within the team was holding back its .

The Protecting America‘s Workers Act, introduced by Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, D-Calif., would let the Occupational Safety and Health Administration enforce stiffer penalties for willful safety violations that result in serious injury or death. (read more)
