Consumer Price Index for October 2008. The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) decreased 1.0 percent in October, before seasonal adjustment, the Bureau of Labor
Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported. The October level of 216.573 (1982-84=100) was 3.7 percent higher than in October 2007.
The Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) decreased 1.3 percent in October, prior to seasonal adjustment. The October level of 212.182 (1982-84=100) was 3.8 percent higher than in October 2007.
The Chained Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (C-CPI-U) decreased 0.8 percent in October on a not seasonally adjusted basis. The October level of 124.784 (December 1999=100) was 3.3 percent higher than in October 2007. Please note that the indexes for the post-2006 period
are subject to revision.
Real Earnings for October 2008. Real average weekly earnings rose by 1.4 percent from September to October after seasonal adjustment, according to preliminary data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor. This increase stemmed from a 0.2-percent increase in average hourly earnings combined with a
1.2-percent decrease in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W). Average weekly hours were unchanged.
Average weekly earnings rose by 2.9 percent, seasonally adjusted, from October 2007 to October 2008. After deflation by the CPI-W, average weekly earnings decreased by 0.9 percent. Before adjustment for seasonal change and inflation, average weekly earnings were $612.19 in October 2008, compared with $594.88 a year earlier.

The job listings are taken from the Federal "Plum Book," and include any positions in the new Administration that are considered as "non career" political appointments.
Fireman's Fund Insurance Company has placed the eQuest job posting delivery service into production through its SAP E-Recruitment application. AspireHR of Dallas, Texas, was responsible for the SAP-eQuest integration.
Jobs2Web Inc., a Web 2.0 interactive recruiting solutions provider, launches its global public relations program and selects The Devon Group as PR Agency of Record, which was founded by Jeanne Achille in 1994.
DuffyGroup, Inc., specializing in customized recruiting solutions and research and human resource services, has expanded their Executive Practice. The enhanced DuffyGroup Executive Practice designs, develops and implements people strategies and tactics to help investors, CEOs, founders and business decision-makers achieve their short and long-term objectives by effectively managing their valuable human capital assets.
As National and State unemployment rates continue to rise, Illinois Governor Blagojevich announced the launching of a new state-run website, Illinois workNet, in conjunction with CareerBuilder, designed to connect citizens to new job openings. The Governor also announced state-wide "Workforce Outreach Days" intended to help prepare potential employees with career planning and training.
Onrec.com tells us that Totaljobs.com won Best Generalist Job Board and CWJobs.co.uk won Best Niche Job Board at the recent Onrec National Online Recruitment Awards (NORA).
