Real Earnings for September 2008. Real average weekly earnings were unchanged from August to September after seasonal adjustment, according to preliminary data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor. A 0.2-percent increase in average hourly earnings and a 0.1ercent decrease in the Consumer Price Index
for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) were offset by a 0.3-percent decrease in average weekly hours.
Consumer Price Index for September 2008. The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers decreased 0.1 percent in September, before seasonal adjustment, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor. The September level of 218.783 (1982-84=100) was 4.9 percent higher than in September 2007.
The Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers decreased 0.1 percent in September, prior to seasonal adjustment. The September level of 214.935 (1982-84=100) was 5.4 percent higher than in September 2007.
The Chained Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers decreased 0.1 percent in September on a not seasonally adjusted basis. The September level of 125.774 (December 1999=100) was 4.3 percent higher than in September 2007.
Industrial employment in Arkansas dropped 1.4% over the past 12 months according to the 2009 Arkansas Manufacturers Register, a compilation of State industry published annually by Manufacturers' News, Inc.. The manufacturers guide reports Arkansas lost 3,178 industrial jobs from August 2007 to August 2008, roughly half the losses MNI reported for the State over the 2006-2007 survey period.

A new partnership between TalentDrive, the producer of TalentFilter, and eQuest, specializing in job posting and internet recruitment management services, gives eQuest clients access to TalentGen. eQuest users can launch a search through their eQuest job delivery interface and TalentGen will locate all matched resumes by job classification, skill sets and location. TalentGen will then score and rank each matched resume and automatically contact the highest ranking candidates via email.
A new partnership between talent acquisition solutions provider Peopleclick, Inc and AIRS, a recruitment training, technology and outsourcing organization, will give Peopleclick clients advanced sourcing tools and resume mining capabilities through the Peopleclick Recruitment Management System (RMS).
In these economic times, boomers will need to work longer, and many say they want a job that provides both money and meaning. Where do nonprofit employers stand with employees, who have finished their midlife careers? A national survey, Tapping Encore Talent: A MetLife Foundation/Civic Ventures Survey of Nonprofit Employers, from MetLife Foundation and Civic Ventures finds that half of nonprofit employers actually see encore workers as highly appealing, with an additional 39 percent finding them moderately appealing. In addition, the survey finds that nonprofits with experience hiring late-career or recently retired workers are the most positive about hiring more. This is the second in a two-part survey (conducted by Peter D. Hart Research Associates, Inc.) examining the job prospects of millions of baby boomers.
ExecuNet Recruiter Confidence Index declined in September as executive search firms tempered their expectations for job growth in the months ahead. According to the September survey of 161 executive recruiters, 49% are confident or very confident the executive employment market will improve in the next six months, down from 53% in August and 64% at the end of the second quarter.
