Employment background screening firm Accu-Screen has tracked trends over 14 years on the relationship between resume falsification data and economic downturns and weak labor markets. According to company data, 43% of all resumes and job applications contain falsifications. This statistic challenges the findings of many industry studies, which place the falsification rate at one-third or less of resumes and job applications.
Its annual "Outrageous Resume Lies" report and distributes it free of charge for interested employers. The key pieces in information tend to me: Dates of employment, Job title (inflated rank), Criminal records, Salary level, Education (e.g. bogus degrees from diploma "mills"), Professional license (e.g. MD, RN, CPA, etc.), and "Ghost" company (self-owned business).
The Wall Street Journal reports that when the July employment report comes out Friday, U.S. payrolls are likely to shrink by an additional 68,000, according to economists. But a substantial number of those who lose their jobs won't get unemployment benefits, even though Congress recently took steps to bolster the program.

Survey Says
Jeitosa Group International, in conjunction with the International Association for Human Resource Information Management (IHRIM), recently conducted a survey to assess the readiness of the human resources (HR) and HR information technology (HRIT) functions to "go global," considering global strategies and structures, people skills and competencies, business processes and supporting technology infrastructures. Key challenges facing global companies include cultural differences (53 percent); compliance with data privacy regulations (42 percent); varying economic conditions across countries (36 percent); time zone differences (32 percent); legal environment (32 percent); international compliance (26 percent); lack of technology and systems to support global initiatives (51 percent); lack of global leadership (47 percent); and a lack of sufficient other global resources (45 percent).
