CareerBuilder LLC is in line for a
$2.9-million subsidy from the city of Chicago to help pay for the planned renovation of
its expanded downtown headquarters, after the company considered moving out of town.
Losing the headquarters could have cost Chicago as many as 1,100 jobs. As part of the TIF
agreement, which was approved Tuesday by the Community Development Commission and now
goes to the full City Council, CareerBuilder is to have at least 800 full-time employees
at its headquarters at 200 N. LaSalle St., up from 540 there now, and another 615
employees at several other offices in the city. The company also has committed to add 185
full-time jobs over the next two years, which would bring its employee count in Chicago
to 1,600.
Survey Says
What career issues keep Generation Y professionals awake at night? When asked to name
their chief career concern, 33% of Gen Y workers polled cited compensation and benefits
issues. The second most common response was finding and keeping a job, provided by 26% of
those surveyed; career satisfaction ranked third, named by 23% of respondents. The
survey, commissioned by Robert Half International and
Yahoo!HotJobs, examines the professional priorities
of the most senior members of Generation Y or the "Millennials" -- those who have already
started a career or will soon start one. More than 1,000 adults between the ages of 21
and 28 were polled for the project. The findings are available in a report, What
Millennial Workers Want: How to Attract and Retain Gen Y Employees.
