Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment: December 2007.
Unemployment rates were higher in December than a year earlier in 277 of the 369 metropolitan areas, lower in 67 areas, and unchanged in 25 areas. Eight metropolitan areas, seven of which are located in California, recorded jobless rates of at least 10.0 percent. Twenty-two areas registered rates below 3.0 percent. The national unemployment rate in December was 4.8 percent, not seasonally adjusted, up from 4.3 percent a year earlier.

Self-funded startup NotchUp.com, founded by Jim Ambras and Rob Ellis, is designed to match job seekers with hiring companies, who pay for interviewing the candidate. The candidate sets the interview price. Their audience is "happily employed professionals" or "passive job seekers." The site charges a transaction fee.

BrokerHunter.com launches its JobBlog, an informational blog on jobs and careers is targeted specifically to Financial Advisory sales and support job seekers; including many job titles in banks, insurance companies and securities firms.

TempWorks Software, a provider of business solutions for the staffing industry, release a supplementary product designed to enhance task flow between Microsoft Outlook and the TempWorks software system.

Net-Temps, the online job board exclusively for the staffing industry, partners partnered with Job.com, a one-stop career portal, whereby Net-Temps jobs are now cross-posted and searchable by Job.com unique jobseeker visitors.

Kenexa, provider of recruitment and retention solutions, have won two coveted 3-year contracts by the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO), which organizes the recruitment of European Union officials.

Microsoft plans to end most sales of Windows XP on June 30 in favor of Vista. InfoWorld blog thinks this to be an expensive, time-consuming shift with problematic benefits that should not be forced on Windows users. It is rallying XP users to demand that XP be kept available.
