OnDemand Event:
An all-star panel of search engine and web user experience experts - including leading representatives from the search engines Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask - has come together in one 60 minute event to share their visions of the future of search. They took questions from an audience and revealed their perspectives on such topics as search advertising, media-rich search results, user intent and social networks.
Panelists explain the directions their search engine innovation has recently taken, and where they may be headed. Moderator Gord Hotchkiss also shows results from Enquiro's eye tracking testing with Google, Yahoo, MSN's Live Search, and Ask. Images show, for example, how - due to changes on behalf of the engines - user scanning behavior has changed since the discovery of Google's Golden Triangle (top left corner) three years ago.
The current high pace of innovation in the search engines begs the question: what do the next three years hold for Google, Yahoo and others? Enquiro has also published a white paper titled Search Engine Results 2010 which examines trends such as the personalization of search results. Personalized results aim to better interpret the user's intent and can be based on factors such as site click-through rate and stickiness, search history, bookmarks, and community behavior. The paper also looks at "Universal Search" which blends search results with news items, video and images.

USA: Highlights from the November employment report ...
First, the recap
One consensus estimate of job growth changed from 75,000 to 90,000 after the release of the ADP Employment Report on Wednesday, which reported growth of 189,000; today, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said that the number of jobs was up 94,000 in November after a rise of 170,000 (revised) in October. The unemployment rate held to 4.7 percent in November. Wages continued to rise with average hourly earnings rising in November by 8 cents, which was up 0.5 percent from the previous month, on top of a 1-cent rise in October. The employment-to-population ratio was up 0.3 to 63.0 percent and the labor force participation rate also rose, by 0.2, to 66.1 percent in November.
Jobs Report
(a.k.a. the payroll or establishment survey; officially the CES)
The 94,000 job overall increase in November -- on top of a revised increase of 170,000 jobs for October -- was consistent with expectations giving further support to the opinion that at least the employment economy is in good shape. However, many experts feel that at least some of the strength is due to seasonal hiring.
Study Says:
VARIABLE COMPENSATION IN THE STAFFING AND RECRUITING INDUSTRY LINKED TO COMPANY AND INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE WITH EQUITY A KEY COMPONENT FOR 26 PERCENT OF ALL FIRMS
Exclusive Study, Sponsored By Bullhorn, Reveals Latest Trends In Staffing And Recruiting Compensation
Bullhorn, the global leader in On Demand, front office staffing and recruiting software, today released their latest research report "Non-traditional Compensation, Bonuses, and Equity Compensation." The report focuses on recruiter compensation, increases in variable compensation, and for the first time in a report of this kind, specific non-traditional compensation perks and benefits and details on how 26 percent of firms use them. Key findings revealed in the report include: industry salaries are increasing; bonus expectations for 2007 are more optimistic than 2006; stock options and company equity are being used more often as variable compensation; process metrics such as placement ratios and time-to-fill are not critical factors in bonus calculations; and the most popular lead metrics tied to bonuses are company performance and individual revenue contribution.
Bullhorn invited approximately 45,000 staffing and recruiting professionals to participate in a Q3, 2007 survey, of which 346 full-time staffing and recruiting professionals' responses were considered to drive the results and conclusions of this report. Overall, 33 percent were primarily in a business development role, while 30 percent were executive management, and 23 percent were in a recruiting role. Thirty percent of respondents are focus on contingency staffing, 20 percent in temporary to permanent staffing, 15 percent in contract staffing, and the rest of respondents are in retained executive search (11 percent), temporary staffing (9 percent) or other (15 percent) focus.
Other compensation trends identified include:
The largest faction of respondents report their annual salaries for 2007, without bonuses, are less than $75,000 (34 percent). Just less than a quarter expect salaries between $100,000 and $149,000 (24 percent), and 22 percent expect to receive between $75,000 and $99,000.
More than half of staffing and recruiting professionals receive an annual bonus (56.5 percent). Of those, 30 percent expect annual bonuses of less than $10,000, a third expect bonuses between $10,000 and $29,000, and just 10 percent expect more than $100,000.
Just more than a quarter of respondents are offered a stock option or another equity component (26 percent). When it comes to equity components in those that use them, 71 percent of respondents say equity is based on performance, compared to just 48 percent for stock options.
Performance is the primary driver of rewards and compensation. However, neither placement nor time-to-fill is cited frequently as a determining factor for variable compensation.
Equity and stock options play a role in more than one-fourth of staffing and recruiting firms' overall mix of compensation, but are not present in the majority of compensation structures.
