Three organizations and a corporate human resource (HR) leader were recognized today by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as the winners of the 2nd Annual SHRM Human Capital Leadership Awards®. The awards program recognizes HR leaders and programs for excellence in developing and executing organizational strategy. Winners were recognized at the SHRM Strategic HR Conference in Tampa.
The SHRM Human Capital Leadership Awards recognize excellence in four categories: three awards honoring exemplary HR departments—Innovative Business Solution Award, Competitive Workforce Award and Strategic HR Leadership Award—and the Human Capital Business Leader of the Year Award, recognizing a senior HR leader.

Innovative Business Solution Award Winner

IBM, Research Triangle Park, N.C., for "Blue Opportunities, an Innovative Approach to Career Development." This employee-driven program was created to offer staff developmental opportunities to enhance and acquire skills as well as help repurpose on-the-job learning activities by crossing worldwide virtual borders without leaving home locations. IBM is an information technology and solutions business with 356,000 employees.

The Competitive Workforce Award is presented to a human resource department that recognizes and successfully responds to key workforce trends and needs in an ever-changing economic climate. These efforts will serve to directly impact the organization's long-term business objectives.
