Labor Shortage 8
Much of what passes for generational change is really related to the demographics of the Labor Shortage. Where the baby boom represented a fantastic level of population growth, the Gen Y - Millennial boomlet is just replacement bodies for the boomers.

That little difference is extremely significant. Where the baby boom was a good deal larger than its predecessor generation (The Silent Types), the Gen Y boomlet is virtually a one for one replacement. The economy had to grow to accommodate boomers and boomer women.  (Read More)

RecruitMilitary,Sierra Group, Workplace Tech Foundation develop New Hiring Process for Veterans with Disabilities.

How the Process Will Work
The new process will begin when an employer places a job order with RecruitMilitary and expresses an interest in hiring a veteran with a disability. RecruitMilitary's National Recruiting Center in Cincinnati will carry out its regular initial tasks--scanning databases for potential job candidates and interviewing those individuals by telephone. Concurrently, The Sierra Group will work with the interested employer on accommodation, risk management, and compliance issues.

As the process progresses, RecruitMilitary will select the candidates with the most potential and prepare them to interview with the employer. The Sierra Group will consult with both RecruitMilitary and the employer as needed. After a candidate has been hired, The Workplace Technology Foundation will be available to help the employer with technological and financial issues, including the securing of a tax credit for hiring a veteran with a disability. The Foundation maintains the Web site www.employmentincentives.com, which describes federal and state tax credits that are available to companies that hire veterans with disabilities.

Deep Release:
SiCap Industries Credits Yahoo Surfers As The Biggest Spenders
Yahoo may be considered the second busiest search engine next to Google, but in the world of shopping, Yahoo surfers may also be the biggest spenders online and offline.

Yahoo may be considered the second busiest search engine next to Google, but in the world of shopping, Yahoo surfers may also be the biggest spenders online and offline. According to Wayne Perry, president of SiCap Industries, Yahoo surfers spend 30% more than other consumers on average.

"We haven't figured out why, but our web stats show consumers referred by Yahoo definitely spend more money on our websites, and according to data collected from our retailers, yahoo surfers also spend more money in the stores that carry our products. This has been a consistent theme for nearly three years," says Perry.

SiCap Industries manufactures natural OTC health products including the world's first hot pepper nasal spray known as Sinus Buster. Although SiCap distributes their products to nearly 10,000 stores worldwide, the company also runs a lucritive internet business with a number of websites offering natural health products online.

In 2003, SiCap began online operations with their first website: www.sinusbuster.com. Since day one, the company has relied on search engine marketing and pay per click advertising to fuel their internet presence and build brand awareness.

"Brand building is a key element to having a successful product, and nowadays you can't do it without the internet. This is an internet world now, and if you want to drive consumers into stores to buy your products you have to build an internet presence. You also have to get bang for your buck, and that means finding the customers who spend more and also the ones that act more. Google is great, but their surfers tend to be teenagers looking for free stuff. As we plan our internet budget for 2008, we're shuffling more of a focus toward yahoo surfers since they spend more money online, and they tend to be more active in the real world such as actually shopping in stores," adds Perry.

Deep Release:
Barnes and Noble Features "30-Day Job Promotion" During August
Following in the tradition of the author's previous books, Susan Britton Whitcomb's fifth literary offering, 30-Day Job Promotion: Build a Powerful Promotion Plan in a Month, has earned featured status at the nation's top bookseller and is drawing rave reviews for its fresh, compelling content.

Although many people may work hard, arrive on time every day, and get along well with their boss and coworkers, many struggle to get promoted despite their best efforts.

"The code for successfully creating a powerful job promotion plan has been broken," said Perry Rhue, Certified Professional Coach and Senior Talent Manager for IBM, "and its secrets are revealed in this book! Susan Whitcomb brilliantly helps readers discover and capitalize on their specific strengths, as well as identify the type of positions that are the best fit. Through countless tips, examples, insights, and personal worksheets, this book provides a fresh breakthrough in the way we can refine our lives and change our careers."

30-Day Job Promotion: Build a Powerful Promotion Plan in a Month (JIST Publishing) gives experienced professionals and first-time workers insider strategies for standing out and demonstrating their value to employers. Full of quick tips and realistic strategies, this book puts readers on the fast track to a promotion--and more money--in just a matter of weeks!

According to a USA Today survey, 20 percent of all male employees and 24 percent of all female employees recently asked their boss for a raise. Of those who asked, 59 percent of women and 41 percent of men were told "no," and those statistics speak only to the men and women who mustered up the courage to ask for a raise in the first place.

"Those numbers," said career coach Robyn Feldberg of Abundant Success Career Services in Frisco, Texas, "clearly demonstrate why asking for a raise is such a nerve-wracking proposition for so many employees."

But what if there was a way to boost one's chances for success and improve those odds? There is.

Said Feldberg, "We all know someone who is or has experienced living the tale told in Dolly Parton's old song '9 to 5'--'Want to move ahead but the boss won't seem to let me, I swear sometimes that man is out to get me.'"

So what should you do if your boss IS out to get you? Feldberg continued, "It happens more often than you might think, and this book offers real strategies for dealing with that scenario and many others. If you've been trying to move ahead and you're waiting around for the day your ship will come in, stop waiting. You can't do the same thing and expect a different result. 30-Day Job Promotion coaches you on what to do differently and how to do it, and that's why I use it with my own clients."

As part of JIST's Help in a Hurry series, this handy, affordable guide ($8.95) gives readers proven strategies to enhance their work performance and to confidently and effectively ask for the promotion and recognition they deserve.

Book highlights include:

    * Top 10 characteristics of promotable people
