Survey Says:
Survey says time-management skills are a big concern, but training isn't
Who's got the time? In a corporate world where employees' plates are so full they can't find their forks, time management is an ongoing concern. According to a just-released study conducted by the Institute for Corporate Productivity (i4cp), the majority of 332 polled companies have heartburn about not only time management but delegation skills as well. Training in those areas, though, isn't as high a priority.
The survey found that 53% of companies have a "somewhat high" or "high" level of concern about the time-management skills of their employees, and 46% of companies feel the same way about workers' delegation skills. Those concerns don't always result in training in these areas, however. Although 49% offer programs for time management, only 28% do so for delegation training.
"When I've had casual conversations with executives over the last few years, it appears to this outsider that the amount of stress related to the work schedule is getting out of control," says Jay Jamrog, senior vice president of research for i4cp. "If their comments are accurate, they are heading for a collective nervous breakdown."
Of those companies that provide time-management training, 52% do so within the company (with 71% using a classroom setting), compared with 59% that offer delegation training in-house (with 65% opting for classroom work). The most commonly used tools for time management are computer-based (Lotus Notes, Microsoft, etc.) and handhelds (PDA, Blackberry, etc.).
Regarding schedule-creation skills, there's also considerable concern, with 39% of responding companies somewhat or highly concerned about scheduling skills. Only 23% say they have a low or somewhat low level of concern in this area. Far and away the most commonly used tool for schedule creation is Microsoft Excel.
The Time Management Practitioner Consensus Survey was conducted by i4cp, in conjunction with HR.com, in June 2007.

Deep Release:
eQuest Update
America's Job Bank – Compliance Status
With the confirmed closure of America's Job Bank ("AJB") on June 30, 2007, eQuest has been closely monitoring the daily status of the new federal compliance guidelines to be issued by the Department of Labor.
The purpose of this email is to update you on the current status based on recent US Department of Labor ("DOL") communications.
CURRENT STATUS
eQuest has been in direct contact with senior DOL officials and has been monitoring all DOL and OFCCP communications.
Recently, the OFCCP published an article entitled "Mandatory Job Listing Requirement Update" (please see http://www.dol.gov/esa/ofccp/index.htm for the full text) that offers guidance following the closure of AJB.
In short, the article states:
(1) a final ruling on new compliance guidelines and regulations is still pending, and
(2) the OFCCP will not cite a company for non-compliance solely because job postings were not directed to the correct employment services, provided that certain specified good faith measures have been followed.
The grace period, which is currently open ended, enables eQuest and its posting partners to develop comprehensive solutions that meet the OFCCP's new regulations regarding compliance.
As a result of AJB turning off their servers on June 30, 2007. eQuest will be eliminating the AJB posting button from your job board selection page on Monday, July 2nd.
SOLUTIONS
Please be assured that, once specific guidelines have been issued by the DOL, eQuest will provide several solutions that enable our customers to efficiently post jobs in compliance with regulatory specifications. As such, in the coming weeks eQuest will be distributing more detailed information on the available options for customers that are required to comply with OFCCP and Veterans Act regulations.
Presently eQuest provides job posting delivery gateways to AJE (America's Job Exchange) and DirectEmployers. Since the Department of Labor has not issued any compliance guidelines eQuest will not recommend any job board until the DOL releases the new regulations.
Please also remember that the DOL does not certify job boards as compliant or non-compliant.
If you wish to add one or both of the above job boards or if you have any questions or need more information, please contact us through http://support.equest.com.
We will keep you informed once an announcement has been made by any job board stating they meet the new requirements.
