A recent Aruspex survey of C-level executives, corporate strategists, and HR executives reveals a significant gap between companies' knowledge of an impending workforce crisis, and what they are actually doing to plan ahead.
The resulting research report is titled, "The Gap Between Needing and Doing: A Survey on Why Some Companies Don't Act on Strategic Workforce Planning Needs, and How Successful Companies Do." The free report is available at:

"Companies have often misunderstood the role, scope and benefits of workforce planning and have felt reluctant or unqualified to begin," says Tess Walton, co-founder of Aruspex, a strategic workforce planning firm that serves some of the world's biggest companies.
The research report includes:
- The primary demographic and other factors affecting today's workforce
- The top workforce planning challenges
- Common barriers to strategic workforce planning
- Best practices in workforce planning
- How HR fits into the workforce planning process.
Strategic workforce planning is a framework in which employers assess and analyze the impact that internal and external changes have on them, explains Walton. It is a holistic process that explores the future, assesses options, and then highlights decision paths to create the preferred future workforce that is capable of delivering a business' strategy.
"This report confirms that the world's leading companies are no longer settling for a basic 12-month staffing plan," notes Stacy Chapman, Aruspex co-founder. "Instead, they are seeking a long-term view that incorporates external trends such as workforce aging, and accesses talent pools in a new and strategic way."

Deep Release:
New PreVisor Business Outcomes Report shows dramatic results from talent management best practices
Client research proves pre-employment testing drives bottom line results
PreVisor, a leader in employment assessments and selection solutions that connect hiring decisions to business results, released its annual report today summarizing over 29 studies demonstrating the correlation between pre-employment testing and workforce performance.
The 2007 Business Outcomes Report covers a wide range of industries, including financial services, telecommunications, health care, retail, and call centers, as a function within industries.
Jeff Facteau, Ph.D., Director of Optimization Services for PreVisor, conducts the studies and compiles the report. He explained, "The goal of each study is to demonstrate the impact of an assessment solution on our client's business. We begin the process by understanding their key business metrics, and then put together an assessment solution specifically designed to predict those outcomes. Stringent data requirements must be met before we conduct a study, which benefit clients by ensuring the studies produce reliable results. These studies show that employees who score high on an assessment have greater value in relationship to the business' goals."
The 2007 Report measures many success factors and shows that the overwhelming number of studies achieved ‘very favorable' outcomes. For each study the criteria measured are specific to the employer and the job. Some highlights from the findings:
A call center calculated sales effectiveness of new customer services representatives and showed that high scorers on average outsold lower scorers by over $18k each per year.
In a warehouse distribution center, turnover after 90 days on the job was reduced by 50%
Reservation agents for a resort and amusement destination who scored high on the assessment solution generated over $150 more per hour in sales than agents who scored low – a difference of almost $1,000 per day per agent.
"We believe that PreVisor is offering a unique service to our clients by taking validated pre-employment testing to another level," said CEO Noel Sitzmann. "Monitoring and evaluating what we do gives us additional insight for constant improvement and provides rich ROI data for our clients. Our Business Outcome Studies are a service available to clients willing to meet the requirements."
Companies who have participated in the studies to date include Advance Auto, EMBARQ (formerly Sprint), and Luxottica (Sunglass Hut, LensCrafters and more). Feedback from these clients state that PreVisor's willingness to track success, continuously validate and fine-tune assessment processes and to achieve maximum results is above and beyond other service providers.
"In staffing, recruiting, talent management, call it what you will, ROI has been discussed in terms of ‘cost-per-hire', ‘time-to-hire' and how fast a system pays for itself. Measuring quality of hire has been hard to get at, and actual on the job performance correlated to individual test score items is nearly unheard of," said Kristopher Fritsche, Talent Manager for EMBARQ. "Now we have a way to work with our senior management in strategic workforce planning – and show them how it profits the business."
Due to the increase in customer demand for research-based business outcome studies, Dr. Facteau's research team has doubled in size from last year and he expects the 2008 Report to include over 40 studies.
