Reveille and Hyperbole:
CollegeRecruiter.com was named one of the best job boards on the Internet in the 2007 Weddle's User's Choice Awards. The annual awards were voted on by over 50,000 human resource professionals, job seekers, and other industry experts. Two-thirds of the winners were niche job boards such as CollegeRecruiter.com, reflecting a trend in which employers and job seekers are increasingly relying on the more relevant and therefore higher quality of information available to them at sites which are focused on particular niches rather than trying to be all things to all people.

UK:
New Fire Safety regulations came into force on 1st October 2006 but many employers are still not identifying the precautions necessary to minimise fire risk. Simply-docs offers a helping hand on the implications of the fire regulations for the workplace (see http://www.simply-docs.co.uk/CustomPage.aspx?customPageID=23). The new fire safety legislation generating these changes is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRO) 2005. The aim of this order was to simplify, rationalise and consolidate existing UK fire legislation, and to shift the emphasis of fire prevention and the reduction of risk from the fire authorities to employers/businesses. This risk-based approach to fire safety allows for more efficient and effective enforcement of the fire safety regulations by the fire authorities.

Canada:
According to Statistics Canada, Labour Force Historical Review, 2003, self-employment has outperformed paid employment and led the Canadian labour market. The number of self-employed Canadians increased by 30% from 1990 to 2004. Although self-employment levels decreased between the years 1999 and 2001, it remains the prevailing growth force in the labor market. Approximately 70% of all businesses in the United States are operated as sole proprietorships primarily because they are easy and inexpensive to set up. Disability and life insurance are important and should be carried by all small business owners but it's not enough. Often a spouse or other family member is called upon to step-in when the owner is sick, injured or dies. In many cases, the spouse or family member neither wants to nor is capable of running the company, regardless of what was discussed prior to the owner's injury or death.

The Government has created an excellent site for veterans to find help with their job search. It has links to America's Job Bank and USAjobs plus information and resources to specifically assist in the transition from military to civilian jobs.
