Staffing Strategies: Can You Find, Recruit, and Retain the Talent You Need?
Authoria's complimentary white paper
Reveille and Hyperbole:
HRsmart,
a Dallas-based leading provider of talent management software solutions,
announced it has selected Human Alliance to launch its technology in South
Africa. HRsmart chose Human Alliance because of their strong presence in South
Africa and desire to add a complete suite of talent management solutions to
their existing e-recruitment offering. "Kevin Alborough's enthusiasm and
business acumen paired with his and his team's expertise in the human resources
outsourcing and consulting market make Human Alliance a strong partner for
HRsmart." said Pablo Fonolla, HRsmart CTO and President of International
Operations. "I believe HRsmart has found the perfect entry point into a quickly
emerging market in South Africa with Human Alliance."
Incisive Media and
Danny Sullivan announced that both parties have signed an agreement to
continue to work together to produce the market-leading
Search Engine Strategies series of conferences and exhibitions (http://www.SearchEngineStrategies.com).
The SES event series was founded by Danny Sullivan and Jupitermedia in 1999 and
rapidly established itself as the leading worldwide forum for marketers,
agencies and webmasters to learn about the latest developments in search engine
optimization and marketing. Since Incisive Media's purchase of Search Engine
Watch, the ClickZ Network and SES in August 2005, the events have continued
their expansion with double digit growth in attendance at the major U.S.
locations and the successful launch of several conferences – both in new
geographies, including China, and vertical and local search sectors.
Linguistic Agents, a pioneer in
the development of linguistic parsing software, announced that it has
successfully created beta versions of its software for a bus system and for a
yellow pages directory, enabling an automated system to better understand the
meaning of customer inquiries. This marks the first time that computer
understanding has successfully moved beyond text towards true understanding of
human language.
Pharmaopportunities, a career portal and job board for the pharmaceutical
and life science Industry, announced that it has achieved first page
rankings on Google, Yahoo! and MSN for the keyword phrase "pharmaceutical jobs"
after only nine months of online presence. Recent searches revealed an average
number six ranking for Pharmaopportunities, whereas their two primary
competitors were listing at eight and nine -- competitors who have been online
for years. This number six ranking is the result of the company's in-house
search engine optimization (SEO) campaign.
"Jobs not recruiters." "What I want in a jobsite is an
actual connection between job seekers and employers, with no middlemen getting
in the way." "Dump the work from home up to $10k a month (job) scams" nThese
we're just a few of the comments taken from a recent Slashdot.com discussion
asking readers "What Do You Want in a Job Web Site?"
GetTheJob.com, a new job site has
listened to job seekers and is giving the people what they asked for.
If you plan to move or relocate to a new job
anytime soon, don't pick up the classifieds just yet. Start your search by first
visiting www.NeighborhoodResearch.com. This free public resource site offers an
abundance of rich demographic data describing every neighborhood throughout the
U.S. Finding your ideal neighborhood in any city in the U.S. can be achieved in
less than 30 seconds. Want to live in a neighborhood with good schools? Low
crime? Families with children? Just select the criteria that are most important
to you and the program instantly shows you the neighborhoods that best match
your description. It works like magic, but it isn't magic. The creators of
www.NeighborhoodResearch.com spent the better part of two years developing their
software amassing gigabytes of data from numerous public and private sources.
All of the data was compiled and normalized to provide useful results to the end
user. They then added a clever mapping interface that allows users to interact
with the data in real time by displaying the data using rich and vibrant colored
map layers. It was a huge undertaking, but the uncanny accuracy of the results
makes all of their effort worthwhile. If you don't believe it, check it out for
yourself. You will be pleasantly surprised!

Accolo,
Inc., an innovator in professional-networking based
Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO), announced that it has been
recognized as the number one fastest growing private company in the San
Francisco Bay Area. The Top
100 Fastest Growing Private Companies annual award is presented by the San
Francisco Business Times and by PriceWaterhouseCoopers. It recognizes Bay
Area-based private companies by revenue growth for the three-year period 2003 to
2005. Scott Foos, Executive Director for the Recruitment Process Outsourcing
Association (RPOA) commented, "Recruitment Process Outsourcing is rapidly
expanding, and Accolo is a true leader in the industry. The
RPO model is one
where a company like Accolo literally becomes a company's internal recruiting
department. Accolo's ability to outperform traditional internal recruiting
departments and agencies based on quantifiable metrics is truly impressive."
Top-selling glass cleaner Windex is now receiving
accolades from animal advocates for replacing an ad showing animated crows
crashing into window panes with a truly funny ad, in which the conniving crows
get the last laugh as they watch while a human walks into a glass door. Windex
has won one of PETA's 2006 "Glitterbox" Awards, which are given to businesses
with ads that promote respect and kindness toward animals. In addition,
Windex—which pulled the first ad after PETA contacted the company—is developing
a bird-friendly window cleaner. PETA also gives out "Litterbox" Awards for
ads that really stink for animals. This year's "winners" include
CareerBuilder—for the second year in
a row—and Jackson Hewitt Tax Service, whose ads featured cruelly trained
chimpanzee and orangutan "actors" in demeaning ways.
A2Z Lingua International launched a global
diversity job board and multilingual career search engine to end the shortage of
foreign language-proficient workforce across the nation. In times when it has
become more crucial than ever for HR communities to succeed at effectively
attracting, engaging and retaining a highly capable, motivated, foreign
language-proficient and cross-culturally competent workforce, A2ZLI.com has come
up with MultiLingualPros.com to take on this challenge. While to many within
affected private organizations and government agencies, this critical mission
may seem more like a daunting task, it actually is much easier than they might
think. This perceived shortage has affected all organizations and industries
without exception, including among the hardest hit, the US Army, the State
Department, the CIA, the FBI, the justice and law enforcement systems, the
educational, public and social services, healthcare, sales, marketing, financial
and insurance services. But surprisingly, according to Mohamed Ly, Executive
Director of MultiLingualPros.com,
"this so-called chronic shortage of linguists and foreign language-skilled
workforce is merely a misdiagnosis."

Craigslist Scams find
Hong Kong Harbor
I will not use Craigslist again. Sadly, It has become the new phishing ( the
term for those who scour the web looking for emails and personal to perpetrate
frauds) ground for every Nigerian scammer on the Internet block. I placed
something for sale on the Hong Kong to benefit the League of Extraordinary
Chinese Women and was responded to by at least ten potential buyers allegedly
from the US (there is a lot of competition amomgst grifters these days). ALL the
IPs resolved in Nigeria. (Blogger News

Smalltown
takes on Craigslist
New company looks to pursue local online community with user-generated
content
YouTube and its Google-rific $1.65 billion are now in San Bruno, but a new
startup with big ambitions has come to town.
Smalltown, an Internet company promoting the idea of the "local Web," an online
space where businesses can interact with the community, launched its first two
sites last week for Burlingame and San Mateo. The company, based in downtown San
Mateo and bolstered by $3 million in venture capital, will compete against
newspaper classifieds, the Yellow Pages and established Web sites such as
Craigslist for customers. The content on Smalltown is user-generated. Businesses
can list their menus, baby-sitters can post their references and restaurant
patrons can display their reviews. All of the information is collected on "Web
cards," which function as miniature Web sites. (InsideBayArea)
Bayt.com joins alliance of top online
recruitment companies
Bayt.com, the Middle East's number one job site, has been appointed the
exclusive Middle East partner for The Network, an international alliance of
market-leading online recruitment companies. The Network was created by UK-based
Totaljobs.com and the Belgian online recruitment leader StepStone in October
2002, to provide international recruiters broad access to international online
recruitment services through a network of leading local sites. (AMEInfo)

From VPHR to CEO -- Xerox's Anne Mulcahy
When Xerox Chairman and CEO Anne Mulcahy was presented with the prestigious
Corporate Innovator Luminary Award by The Committee of 200 on Oct. 13 in
Washington, D.C., she was lauded for saving her company from financial crisis,
as well as for being one of 10 female CEOs in the Fortune 500. Interestingly,
Mulcahy's trip through the glass ceiling had a stop in the human resources
department, and it is clear from her remarks that she believes people are
Xerox's greatest resource. (HR.BLR.com)
