ATSUM calls boycott of graduate teachers recruitment
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur has announced its boycott of the ongoing
process for the recruitment of 679 graduate teachers, due to the failure to
specify the number reserved seats for Scheduled Tribes to be filled through
backlog if there is shortage, as promised to the union. The statement of the
union clearly pointed out that recruitment of graduate teachers through regular
process and any steps taken by the government will not solve the problems of the
hill areas unless some sort of special consideration is given to the hill
schools. besides, the said process has already jeopardized the whole system of
‘contract teachers'. (The

More than 70% of teachers believe that overseas-trained professionals should be
recruited to alleviate the teacher shortage in some subjects in the UK, a new
poll has found.
The poll, conducted by the education recruiters Select Education, asked teachers
whether they would support the recruitment of qualified overseas teachers to
fill the shortage in the UK. Only 29% of respondents said they would not approve

Who's In Prison? The Changing Demographics of Incarceration
is our site of the day
This report by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) released
publicly late last night is very timely in the debate over our state's prisons
and solutions for the current overcrowding and high recidivism rate we are
experiencing. Perhaps some of the information in this report will be helpful as
the legislature considers measures in the final three weeks of the session. Next
year, when these thorny problems are revisited by the legislature and others
concerned with good public policy in this area, the report will undoubtedly be
revisited. The PPIC study shows that California's prisoners aren't who they used
to be The comprehensive demographic analysis reveals a prison population that is
not only larger but changing dramatically. Some of the major changes have
unsettling implications, including potentially prohibitive health care costs for
an aging inmate population and the social welfare consequences of incarcerated
women with minor children. (California

The evolving world of recruitment
THE one thing that has been constant in recruitment has been change. An industry
that once relied on contacts and names held in a "little black book" has become
a multi-million-pound sophisticated business using the best in modern
communications and system technology. Through boom and recession recruiters have
faced constant challenges brought about by skills shortages. Sometimes these
have been regional and sometimes national issues. Employers have responded
positively to this by spending more time and money on succession planning and
the training and development of their staff. But when a company needs to recruit
staff another major issue can arise - relocation. (icWales)
