HR Hot in China
Wage Growth for HR execs in China: 20%. (2004 to 2005) Typical salary, top HR exec in a multinational: US $97,000 (Mercer).
Per capita income is 1% of that. "The environment here was very different from anything the company had faced before." said Mike Cline a VP Global Personnel. "There are a lot of messes here" says Dane Chamorro of Control Risks. (The

We Need to Hire Recruiting Animals, eh?
A recent Mercury News article has Yahoo complaining again - like most SV companies - of a talent shortage. Perhaps its the ubiquitous liberal media bias where news organizations - with the exception of the conservative Fox empire - think the country's employment situation is beyond dire. In the linked
article, the author writes... For the minority of people with the right skills and right experience, life is good again as they field multiple offers that result in escalating salaries. But for many others, the job market remains firmly shut, forcing them to accept jobs well below their experience or to
consider a career change. (Recruiting Edge)
Simply Hired versus Jobster
SiliconBeat reports that job search engine Simply Hired has scored $13.5 million from Fox Interactive Media and Foundation Capital, bringing total capital raised in the Mountain View, Calif.-based startup to $17.7 million. That is a good chunk of change, but it
is still far less than what Seattle's Jobster has raised. Jobster -- backed by Mayfield, Ignition Partners and Trinity Ventures -- pulled in $27.5 million in two rounds of financing last year.
Still, as is pointed out by SiliconBeat, Fox Interactive Media's involvement with Simply Hired could provide a boost. As part of the deal, Simply Hired will power job search for a variety of Fox Interactive properties, said Fox Interactive President Ross Levinsohn in
this press release. Spun out of News Corp. last year, Fox Interactive has been on a buying spree , gobbling up Seattle-based Scout
Media, the wildly popular MySpace and online games site IGN Entertainment. (SeattlePI)

Wow! What a cool recruiting trick. Thanks Rob...
I have over 9 years of recruitment research and yet, I am still learning new tricks. Check out this cool trick I picked up from "The Australian Wonder" - Rob McIntosh. Imagine finding the resume of the perfect candidate only to find out that they were not swayed by your pitch and are quite happy where they
are. But never fear! They will give you a call once they are ready to make a move. (Ummm... yeah, don't hold your breath.) If this is a situation you are familiar with (and what recruiter is not?), then I suggest that you configure your Internet Explorer browser to send you an email whenever your perfect
candidate updates their resume. (Jim Stroud)
Authoria Introduces Recruiting
Authoria Recruiting is big news simply because it expands the reach of the talent management suite. Most vendors claiming to be
TMS have either been talent acquisition without the rest, or talent management without the aquisition. Recruitmax was the notable exception for a long time, but with Kenexa buying WebHire, Authoria releasing Authoria Recruiting, Taleo planning on getting
into the talent management arena, and WorkStream also with functionlaity, this bumps the integrated suite up one notch. The reason it's critical to integrate TAS with TMS is twofold. First traditional
TMS suites have been able to sell lots of performance modules, but not much else. This gives them another foothold as talent acquisition systems are probably purchased more often that performance is. (SystematicHR)
Some Firms Decide to Reinsource HR
As reported in HRI, some companies are discovering that previously outsourced HR functions need to be brought back in-house. Citing reasons such as poor performance, cost overruns, lack of communication and lack of strategic alignment, Human Resource Executive magazine noted in its November 2005 issue that
several companies are reexamining their HR outsourcing. Functions like recruiting are being "reinsourced" because vendors don't understand a company's particular industry and therefore can't execute workforce planning. (Canadian

Top Asian cities in Quality of Living Survey
So how do Asian cities fare in Mercer's World-wide Quality of Living Survey released this month? The survey, which considered 215 cities, evaluated 39 factors under the following general categories: political and social environment, economic environment, socio-cultural environment, medical and health
considerations, schools and education, public services and transportation, recreation, consumer goods, housing, and natural environment. New York City was the base city with an index score of 100 (and ranked 39th overall). (Asia

The Edge has noticed some of the popular blogs carrying stories the last few days about how to find names inside companies and an interesting read written by Jim Durbin that addresses that popular argument about passives and actives. One semi-dissenter (Rob McIntosh) wrote that the segment of the working
populace he himself was most interested in was the 30% of the candidate base that he terms "selective" – those that could also be referred to as "Prospects". He states: "It is the 30% that I am interested in. It's the 30% that gives me a little more insight of potential willingness to be approached. They do
have a public presence (CV on personal web page, executive summary on a social networking tool, bio on a blog, etc). They are also deliberately throwing their details out there for the world to see and majority are aware exactly what one of the bi-products of that actually means……Headhunter calls!...And they
are the ones that you refer to that are selectively networking and keep their ears/eyes out. Not because they hate their job but because they like options (not as in Stock ;-))." (Recruiting Edge)
India:
Delhi leads in job advertisement
The Hindu reports that Delhi creates maximum jobs in India . I wonder how many of the jobs the research tracked are 'growth' jobs compared to 'backfilling for attrition' jobs? The report merely says that - "industry chamber Assocham tracked 6,175 job placements in first two months of
2006 and found out that employers in Delhi advertised for 1,495 vacancies, followed by Mumbai with 1,344 placements". (Gautam Ghosh)

Employee Career Connection to help staff make most of career
First internal-candidate-only event to be held April 26"Career resiliency is the ability to remain employable in the midst of the constant changes in today's job market," said Devin Ryder, senior consultant for career management at Harvard's Office of Human Resources. "It's a person's ability to adapt and
change in the workplace as needed, including a willingness to keep updating one's skills," she added. (Harvard Gazette)
Top 100 Employers for MBAs
Fortune just released a list of the top 100 employers at which MBA's would like to work. While it is true that some non-MBA's would therefore regard this as being a list of of the top 100 organizations at which they would not want to work, the list is nevertheless enlightening as it tends to contain those
organizations which have the best brand names on-campus, pay the most, and offer the best quality of work to their MBA hires. Heading up the list are four consulting companies (don't you have to be an MBA to work there in any capacity?) and -- wait for it -- Google. (College
