Global:
Taboid-Size Papers Fail to Sustain Circ Increases
Newspapers that switch to tabloid format, something that 80-plus major newspaper around the world have done in the hopes of boosting reader appeal and halting circulation declines, have found that it is no cure-all, according to the World Association of Newspapers, Media Life reports. Though many papers that switched from broadsheet to tabloid format did see circulation spurts, those gains have been seen to evaporate over time.  WAN has been studying the issue, and has found that shortly after going tabloid, papers tend to see a circulation increase of about 10 to 15 percent, but after a few years, most see only a 1 percent growth or stable sales. On the other hand, initial concerns about how a size change would impact advertising have all but disappeared, with advertisers adjusting to the change, according to the article. (MediaBuyer)

US:
Laid-off vs. new blood: Climate of downsizing sets up 12-round bout for entrepreneurs
Ten years ago, the 20-something crowd ruled the ring when it came to entrepreneurship. But in recent years, a new wave of entrepreneurs called Corporate America Veterans and Beyond, or CAVs, has crept into the squared circle.  In this new-aged and revolutionized tale of the tape, a classic boxing match ensues.  In one corner, recently laid-off or fired employees, who have spent 15 to 20 years working in a corporate environment, but plan on being successful entrepreneurs. Network a valued study by-product Personal bonds extend beyond graduation
Executives taking the top EMBA courses in the U.S., Europe and Asia have average salaries of around $130,000 to $200,000. A typical EMBA student is likely to be aged in the early 30s, with 6-10 years of working experience.   As well as a certificate for the office wall and letters after their name, MBA and EMBA students leave business schools with something even more valuable -- a network. After spending an intensive period studying and interacting with peers during their course, students form personal bonds that last well beyond the graduation ceremony. These networks of relationships span companies, industry sectors and even countries, creating an informal web of contacts, knowledge and influence. Picking up the phone to call a CEO is a lot easier if you've worked alongside them in a lecture theater.

Vietnam:
Labourers in FIEs change jobs frequently
VietNamNet – A survey by Vietnam's Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM), finds labour conversion in foreign invested enterprises (FIEs) is relatively high at 43%. Responding to a World Bank survey on the business environment, many enterprises complained about labourers' qualifications, and the high percentage of labour conversion as the best workers leave for other employment. A survey conducted by CIEM showed similar results. From 2001 to 2003, the ratio of labour conversion in foreign invested enterprises rose to 43%.  The highest ratio of labourer rotation is seen in textile and garment, and footwear enterprises: with 32% of labourers shifting to other FIEs, 23% setting up private business, and 18% moving to Vietnamese owned enterprises. Southern Vietnam witnesses the highest ratio of labour rotation, while there is a big difference between northern Hanoi and Hai Phong Cities, and southern HCM City. (Vietnamnet)
