Global:
- Diminishing Returns for Outsourcing?
The benefits may be harder to come by than is widely assumed, and they could become even more elusive if a new international
rule is embraced by the Financial Accounting Standards Board.
Outsourcing has become so common among U.S. companies that the question no longer seems to be whether to engage in the practice but how far to extend it. The answer, according to the conventional wisdom, is the farther the better.
The benefits seem obvious indeed. To the extent a company can cut its costs by turning over non-core services to an outside firm, its earnings and stock price may increase. And consultants contend the impact can be transformational. The trick is to identify costly but ancillary functions that can be outsourced without sacrificing the quality of the support.
But there's the rub . . .

US:
- MBAs: Back in the Money Again
According to a survey from the Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC), reported in USA Today, salaries and signing
bonuses for newly minted MBAs jumped in 2005 to a record $106,000, up 13.5 percent from 2004.
Salaries alone surged to $88,600, topping the previous record of $85,400 set in 2001. The average bonus paid by an investment
bank to a fresh MBA graduate in 2005 was $40,000. Consulting firms and investment banks are again hiring aggressively after
cutting jobs sharply during the recent recession.

- IRS Needs Agents, Auditors as Retirements Loom
The IRS's Large and Medium Size Business Division (LMSB) is staffing up as many of the career staffers who conduct or manage corporate audits approach their retirements. Pay packages could prove taxing to some, however.
Keith Walker, Director of Human Capital at LMSB, says the unit has been actively recruiting senior-level agents from outside the government, a relatively new tactic for an organization that has traditionally promoted from within.
